Okay... I was slow to get the news but you made me Google around a bit and found out that Roland and Cakewalk are in bed now (actually since 2008)  That's great to know.  May be more good things showing up.
At least I can wishhhh... :D

I will be VERY interested to see how the DR-880 is implemented in the BR-800...

BR-600 and BR-900CD soon to be discontinued?

I've noticed that the Boss website no longer lists the BR-600 and BR-900CD. And tonight I found this Roland/Boss 2010 Catalogue on the German Boss site:

http://www.rolandmusik.de/downloads/prospekte/Pocket_Boss.pdf

It lists the MicroBR, BR-800, BR-1200, and BR-1600 only. No BR-600 or BR-900CD.

Hmmm...

I wonder if the BR-800 is replacing both the BR-600 and the BR-900. Or is another model coming soon to replace the BR-900? I guess the BR-900 really doesn't have anything that's not available on the BR-800 except one extra fader and the CD burner. So maybe the BR-800 replaces both models. But I'm kind of hoping they'll introduce another new BR that's just a bit nicer than the BR-800. Maybe with drum pads like the BR-600, a couple more faders, and USB 3 for high-speed transfers? I'm guessing the BR-800 has USB 1 like all of the other BRs since I haven't seen anything to suggest otherwise. It could take a long, long time to backup a 32GB SDHC card with USB 1.

Actually, since 1995 when Roland became the sole distributor for Cakewalk products in Japan. Then in 2003, Roland became a minor shareholder in Cakewalk. They became the major shareholder in January 2008.

I use the BR-600/900CD primarily as front ends for live performance (guitar effects and backing rhythm tracks - for this reason I really appreciate the toneload function).  But the irritating thing for me is changing tempo live - the inability to make fine adjustments to tempo without having to hold the tap tempo button down.

I think if you hit tap tempo once, the cursor (or window) should change immediately to the digits field of the tempo indicator in all the BR's.  This is so obvious to me that I cannot imagine why Roland left it out.

Similarly, with the DR series (and the Alesis and Akai, BTW), you have to use two hands to adjust tempo - one to hold the button down, and one to turn the wheel, unless you have weird hands...

The DR-880 is even WORSE; there is no global tempo option, so unless all your patterns are the same tempo (tempo is assigned on a per pattern basis), you can't switch them in performance.  Providing such an option would be an easy OS/firmware update in the case of the BR's and the DR-880i, and would make them much more useful for us solo gutiar acts in live gigs.....

I'm waiting for the BR-800 manual, though.....  The BR/600/900CD are really very good unless you need the computer interface  (I'm trying to talk myself out of the BR-800, but I'm not being very successful........)

Quote from: launched on March 24, 2010, 01:40:24 PMI saw your post on the V Studio 20. Do you know if that will work standalone, or does it have to be connected to a computer?

I don't know for certain but my guess is that a computer is required for recording. The hardware probably isn't a recorder. It's just an interface/controller for the software.

I know it's been a while since this was posted but I did ask about this on Cakewalk's forum...here is the answer:

"The VS-20 is both hardware and software. If you want to record with the VS-20 then you need to have the the PC connected. (Response posted by Robin Kelly, Cakewalk)"
