It's your civic duty to do it Tommy to save the Songcrafters from my efforts on the uke - it's exactly the same, they've just changed the key from Cm to C!

"The Chicken Dance" was composed by Werner Thomas in the 1950s. The sheet music credits Werner and producer Louis van Rijmenant (usually under the pen name "Terry Rendall"). So it's not traditional.

It's exactly the same - just switched from a minor to a major key!

Sorry Hilary, I think what you posted is just a klezmerized version of the Chicken dance, which is the original.

I believe it's an old folk song in the minor key (otherwise the sheet music would be in the major key surely) - and I think the website on the sheet music is the same one 64 recommended - haven't got time to check it out now though. I'll be truly gutted if I'm wrong!

To be continued . . .

Well the good news is, it's not listed under novelty songs.
The bad news is, I think the minor key is something to do with the Kletzmer tuning.

but it is listed under -

American Old-time Music - Guitar Tab
Title index page

Old songs, fiddle & banjo music, old country music, bluegrass, old songs and traditional dance music.

I think I'll leave it there, although I have already bought the chicken onesie for the Youtube vid (it's actually a cow, I couldn't get a chicken one!)
