The July/August 2014 festivals are:

RemoteFest (banner image missing)

Write a song about a location outside your home and record the song live in that same location. The location can be a natural, outdoor place such as a park, forest, beach, river, natural attraction (The Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, etc.), or even your own backyard/garden. Or it can be a man-made place (indoor or outdoor) such as a train/subway/bus station, sports arena, baseball diamond/tennis court/footy pitch, bar/pub/club (live gig about the venue?), an elevator, shopping centre/mall/department store, etc.

You can do a cover instead of an original if it's appropriate for the location. For example, you could go to a local river and record a cover of Neil Young's "Down By The River" or "Take Me to the River" by Al Green/Talking Heads. Or how about Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator" recorded in an actual elevator? I'm sure you'll think of lots of other possibilities.

Your post must include pictures of the location taken on the day the recording was made. If you're concerned about privacy, you don't have to include yourself in the pictures. Just take a picture of your recorder and/or instruments with the location in the background. Or you could include yourself with your head cropped out, as people often do on YouTube. Of course, if you want to include your smiling face in the picture, you're welcome to do so.

LennonsJukebox (banner image missing)

In 1989, a jukebox owned by John Lennon was auctioned at Christie's for £2,500. It contained 40 singles that Lennon listened to while on tour in the sixties. This festival will consist of covers of those songs, including the B sides.

Here's an image of the jukebox song index in John Lennon's own writing:

Because many entries are blank and others are crossed-out or otherwise ambiguous, there is some confusion about which records were actually in John Lennon's jukebox. For the purposes of this festival, we'll accept covers of any song from the following lists:

This first list is based on the song list image above in Lennon's own writing. Some songs are blank because he didn't fill-in those places on the song list. A few songs are speculation because of crossed-out entries on Lennon's song list or titles that could have more than one possibility.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to 64 guitars for putting the Lennon jukebox listing together with links to all the songs. That's a lot of work and dedication right there. You're the man!

Hear, hear. Well beyond the call of duty. I for one have heard a lot if excellent music I wouldn't have otherwise heard. Wether or not anyone covers it.

The November/December 2014 festivals are:

Beatles Challenge Fest

It's been two years since our last BeatlesFest. This one will be a bit different. The challenge is to complete some more Beatles albums. So this time we'll only allow Beatles songs which have not yet been covered in the past two BeatlesFests. And solo works won't be allowed this time -- only Beatles songs from their studio albums.

Here's a list from 2012 of the songs that haven't been done yet:

https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=15659.msg202836#msg202836

When I get time, I'll check that list to see if any of them have been done since 2012 (maybe one or two?).

MonkeyFest

Songs featuring monkeys in the lyrics.

Note:
1) Original instrumentals are not allowed for MonkeyFest. If you want to do an original song, it must have lyrics that are about monkeys. Instrumental covers would be allowed if they are covers of a song that originally had lyrics about monkeys (or at least mention monkeys). For example, you could do an instrumental cover of The Rolling Stones' "Monkey Man" or "Mickey's Monkey" by The Miracles.
2) Covers of songs by the group The Monkees are not allowed unless the lyrics mention monkeys (the animal, not the band). The only song that comes to mind is The Monkees' Theme Song which has the lyric "People say we monkey around". Even that's a bit iffy but I think we'll allow it.

I've checked the list of remaining Beatles songs that were not covered in the first two BeatlesFests and found fenderbender's cover of "Words of Love" which The Beatles recorded on side 2 of "Beatles for Sale", so I've added it to the Beatles Challenge Fest jukebox.

Here's the complete list of songs that are eligible for inclusion in the Beatles Challenge Fest:

I've decided to strike-through the songs as they're done. But you can still cover those songs if you want to. There's no harm in having multiple covers of the same song, as long as they weren't covered in the first two BeatlesFests. The strike-through is just a way to keep track of which ones have been done so that we can concentrate on those that are not yet done and thereby complete the albums eventually.
