So - how much fun it be to choose a classic album (which one to be decided) - and divi up the songs between all of all - a reproduce the entire album (or interpretation of?) - same songs, same order for download - thoughts/comments

I don't mind the idea of covering albums but I have a couple of concerns:

1) With two festivals going on at all times, adding classic albums might be a bit much.
2) I worry a bit about the copyright implications of covering commercial songs. When we cover entire albums, I worry even more.

One way we could eliminate both of my concerns is to have an AlbumFest where we cover songs from the following albums:

And I'm sure we'll think of two more to make a total of six albums to choose from.

This wouldn't interfere with the festivals because it would actually be one of the festivals. And there'd be no copyright concerns because we'd be covering the music of other Songcrafters with their permission.

Okay - only thinking aloud. Will listen to the U2 Fest. Not really sure about copyright - are there any lawyers on this site??? I think you'd be in trouble if you tried to sell it - but that's clearly not the intent. I'm sure that music leaves copyright after a number of years (is that 50 years???). The thing that seems on youtube now is the right to claim advertising revenue from copyright material, so youtube starts adding ads onto your vids, and I'd hate that to happen to this site, that would suck.

In terms of what album, I'll pass on close to the edge :-) I wouldn't mind Dark Side of the Moon - or early Sabs album - but hey, this is just an idea, and open to the floor so to speak!

So, is this how Youtube manage to get away with the copyright issue?

or are they getting away with copyrights?

There are millions of people on that site doing covers of music. Which I often check out, it can be a good learning tool.

Is their advertising revenue in part going to artists or their labels, how does it work?

bruno i too for a long time thought as long as you make no money off it, it was cool. it isnt. so they do have to be careful here on covers. cause the lame ass record co's and ascap, bmi etc, who yearly rip off older musicians like lester chambers of the chambers bros. can have thier steal. apparently any cover played even by no name bands in clubs or in small places, are suppose to pay for playing someone else's music.
far as yoiutube, things are left there till someone reports them. then it must come down, we sure wouldn;t want that hapeneing here. greedy bastards. even though you are covering a song for no money, you would have to pay money to do so. wtf?!

phantasm777

add to that it is free advertising and a cover we do here might turn someone on to a band they never heard of! :\
