Hi chaps,

Bought my Micro BR about a month ago, a couple of covers down the line, here is my first attempt at my own song.......I hunted around this evening for a forum to stick it on as i would badly like some constructive criticism - stumbled across this fantastic site! Anyway, enough babbling, hello and let me know what you think of the tune.....its called Cast a Line - kind of a folksy 12 string acoustic based dit about being in the comfort zone and thinking there must be someone to blame type thing - wow that made u want to listen hey  ;)

Cheers,
Dan

Welcome aboard.  Great song, what is there to say, really nice voice.  My wife is listening and she also likes your voice.  You recorded your voice really well.  The acoustic sounds good.  I can't think of anything to add here other than I really like this song and your recording of this song.  Lets have another.  Great job.

Wow!  That's a very mature, well-written song, and well performed song.  I like the sparse use of piano (or is it chimes?).

I listened to it on my little laptop speakers, and had to pop on the headphones for a second listen.

Sounded even better in headphones, but it also revealed that everything is panned to center.  The only tweak I'd suggest would be to pan things around a bit.

One thing that I occasionally do is to listen to my recordings in mono.  If my mix and composition doesn't sound good in mono, panning isn't going to help much. Your song sounds great in mono, so panning will really fill the space.

Dan, welcome to the site, man. Great song and powerful. The harmonizing vocals is the icing on the cake. What kind of acoustic are you playing on?

The boys said it all here - Just a fantastic number!! If you have an MBR, then this is the right place for you - Absolutely the best place on the planet for tech info, advice, inspiration and all in all wonderful people to share your music with.

I agree with Ted - a little panning and puff work, this song would just jump right out at you and smack you in the face!!

Another listen is in order...

Welcome and see you around,

Your harmonies just popped out at me.  And yes along with the others if you own a br of anykind this is the place.  They are friendly and very hellpful.!!!  Oh I love the little bells or chimes it adds to the charm of your song.!!

Great vox and harmonies and a lovely song. As the others said, a bit more work on the stereo image would give you more depth. Either try a stereo effect on the guitar or double it up. The chimes are a great idea, but I have to say the third note in some of the sequences sounds a little dissonant to me, but that could be just me.

Great song though and look forward to hearing more.

Cheers,

Nice song, you have a great voice for this style, it works really well.

I have to agree with the panning comments, a bit of separation will but some 'air' into the sound stage. But that aside it's well recorded and well delivered. Thanks for sharing.
