Tangled Wires

Have a friend who has just bought a BR, and is having the following problems in relation to memory cards:-

a) We cannot seem to delete the Big Dance demo song, as it is permantly protected. We have tried moving the switch on the card to the unlocked position but it seems to make no difference, and the locked icon is permantly displayed on this song.

b) He has brought a 2gb card, but as soon as you try and create a new song, it comes up with the "Card Full" message, Having read some previous posts on this I am guessing that the card may not be compatible with the BR, although we did not try initializing the card, which i am sssuming may work if the card is compatible.

Any help would be much appreciated

The MBR is really picky about which SD cards it likes....

There is a list in the back of the manual of which ones should work well...

I haven't bought one of these recomended brands yet and have always had problems..... Card errors...Etc...

From the Roland U.S. Knowledge Base:

How to Protect/Unprotect your song.
Knowledge Base ID: 104612
Product: Micro-BR

To access the protection settings for your song, follow these steps.
Press UTILITY.
Press TR1 for SONG.
CURSOR once to the right.
Press TR3 for PTC (Protect)
If the song is protected already, the Micro-BR will read UNPROTECT SONG?
Pressing TR4 will unprotect your song.
If the song is unprotected, the Micro-BR will read PROTECT SONG?
Pressing TR4 will protect your song.

Or see page 60 of the manual.

Secure Digital (SD) card Compatibility Guidelines
Knowledge Base ID: 104812
Product: Micro BR

The following is a list of guidelines to help you choose a compatible SD card for the MICRO-BR :

Secure Digital (SD)

32MB - 1GB capacity. Larger cards cannot be formatted in the MICRO-BR.

Using Major brands like Sandisk, Panasonic, and Lexar is preferred.

Avoid using cards that are considered "Hi Speed."

If you're interested in the technical reasons that the Micro BR is limited to 1GB, see https://songcrafters.org/64guitars/BR/FAQ.html#mem.

Some people say they've successfully used a 2GB card in a Micro BR, although it can only access half of the card's capacity. But I'm a bit sceptical about this because it's not clear what will happen when you reach the 1GB limit. I think it's better to use 1GB cards only.

Here's an up-to-date list of the compatible SD cards according to Roland.

There is a list in the back of the manual of which ones should work well...

So far I'm unable to find a store that even sells anything that old/small.  The smallest I can find in any brand is 2G, and the racks tend to be stuffed with 8G and 16G cards.

I've had this thing for several days and am itchin' to try it out, but I guess I'll just have to try to find one online and wait for shipping...
