Here's a sunday whiney. I started goofing around and then ended up finishing the track.

The arrangement is closer to the Judas Priest version, but otherwise it's closer to Baez. Not necessarily Joan though... ;)

Edit: I removed the original. This is more "serious" and "musical" in a way. I recorded the bassline for it and tinkered with the mix. I liked the vocals more in the original (less produced version), but it is what it is :)

I know there are sections where it's impossible to hear / understand the lyrics. The bridge section is especially cramped at times.

I am a big fan of all things ZOLTAN!

I can't say I know this song... maybe I do... but I love what you did here... it actually has a touch of reggae feel...
or perhaps a tad bit of some Fleetwood Mac... depending on what era you listened to ...

that pot swell at the end was sweet.

I went and listened to the orig from Joan... she kind of reminds me a bit of Linda but with much more vibrato... her voice is awesome but a little too much trem for me... however I am being picky as no one can measure up in my mind to Linda Ronstadt... I do love her trem though when she registers up...
her singing is sweet and I could fall in love with that voice... so thanks for the cover .... it's not like I never heard her before but ... also maybe a touch of a classier Cher sound?

I am going to listen to her live in 75 now...

Yeah it's Brazilian rhythm i was playing with!

I tinkered a bit with the drums. Now they're different (more sidestick action, different ending etc.), but i'm no sure which one is better.

Changing the drums changed the vocals so i had to EQ them a bit differently also. I'm not sure if i'm killing too much bass or not. It is what it is :)

ok, I just got schooled... man alive... the 1975 one sucked but this one... wow...

blew me away... the lyrics are stunning and all the things I mentioned I didn't really like in her voice from the studio recording pretty much disappeared with just her and the acoustic guitar... unbelievable talent right there...
thank you so much for introducing me to this great song and more of the artist... I think I will give up playing and singing altogether now (ha... I could after that...)

after listening to both of your mixes they are both excellent imo... and honestly I like your version even more now that I know the original better... not sure why that happened but it did...

the second mix actually seems like it has more bass but it could just be the volume of the track is a bit hotter and that would make the bass seem louder... not sure... I like both of the mixes though.

I kinda did the dirty on that song :D

But in my defence... I never though of doing it as a song. I just wanted to make something to whine over. That's the main reason for the rhythm and approach too.

The original has all that cool acoustic stuff. Which i skipped. I'm not that familiar with either Judas Priest, or Baez original :)

Ray Brookes

I'd say this is probably the best song that Joan Baez ever wrote; a sad reflection on her relationship with Dylan. This is a cool cover, Zoltan and a nice interpretation with that bouncy rhythm.

then several reflections after this recovery and the reflections of the guys in response
1/ I didn't know this song so no preconceived ideas..your voice is so good Zotlan, I love it
2/ I listened to the clip proposed by stephen, live magnfique of Joan Baez, and this Martin sounds really good
2/ By reading the answer of Ray I learned that this song had been written by Joan Baez in connection with her relation with Bob Dylan so I read the text and its translation in French indeed when we know the context.
3/ and finally I didn't know Linda Ronstadt at all, and we can't say that she is known in France, and what a discovery too (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bj_32QeAaU&list=RDEMegwSGEHILPHMpG5w11YYDg&index=2)

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

wow JP....

wow JP.... I am sure you would love Linda Ronstadt.... she had quite a number of different styles through the years.  You might like The album "Heart Like a Wheel"... it was in her early days and quite country.  I loved that one but also she became a bit of a rocker later with an album called "Mad Love".  She actually sang a song Neil Young wrote and a couple of Elvis Costello songs.  But I would say you might love this song called "Blue Bayou."...

also Jp She had some of the finest west coast US musicians around in her bands on tour.  In her very early days she helped launch the Eagles as a band.  some of their early members had been in her band called the "SToned Ponies"...

This will be the last one and sorry for bumping my own!

I had to try singing it in a more relaxed / low(ish) manner to see if it would work better. So this version has 100% new vocs and different phrasing.

I gotta say that your vocals on any of these I heard (3 now I think) all sound AMAZING... I don't care if one other person on the planet likes your singing or not... I absolutely love it... and you keep getting better... there is not substitute for lots of singing... if there is one thing I am learning that makes perfect sense if one thinks a little about it...that is we have to practice vocals as much as guitar or bass or drums or anything... sure some people have it natural...and even those folks get better with time and practice.
I would add also that learning all the tricks that can be done in a recording studio at the mic... it's really immense.. live is a bit different because to some degree we are at the mercy of who sets up the PA... and I sing alot from sound I hear... like with an acoustic...the sound coming off the hole helps me sing better... but plugged in is way different... I think I am still way off in singing live but I don't give up hope...

I love this song now... and it has done alot of good...
