I did a version with more instruments some time ago on SC

..but known this song by Pierre Bensusan in his first album "Près de Paris", in 1976 with which he got the Grand Prix of Folk Music at the Montreux Festival

Paradoxically it is not in DADGAD tuning, Pierre's specialty, but in D, bass in D (capo 7th fret)

It's not an easy picking, I did what I could...for the pickin lovers I put the tablature in PJ

I'm always looking for "good sound" for the acoustic guitar (quest for the Grail)
here I tried two simultaneous takes

-one track with a Behringer C2 pickup,
-one track with DI

Well, it's still not satisfactory, but it's better

Some "pains" at the recording and acceleration/slowing down (recorded without metronome)

PS  pain" is a word in French slang  means false note, couac ;)

Some lovely guitar playing - I've not really picked since my early days of learning guitar. This makes me wish I'd played acoustic more. Really pleasant vocal too !

this is fantastic playing toward the level of say Lindsey Buckingham good... I am sure you do include it often in your recordings and perhaps i haven't noticed as much...but this made me sit straight up in my chair and take notice... if you hadn't sang a note that would have been perfectly acceptable.  You know I love your voice and singing.  I would love to have this just as an instrumental though as well... don't know if you could include in the post?  I am holding my heart, this is so lovely... you are such a romantic JP

Thank you Pete and Stephen for your kind comments

I didn't know Lindsey Buckingham, indeed he is a good finguer picker

There are many very, very good finguer pickers but for me the absolute reference is Pierre Bensusan

I forgot to put the tablature in my first post
now it's done, in pdf in pj

Thanks for introducing me to this great song!  Love it. Caught my ear immediately. Not only is the fingerpicking really great but this singing is great too. And it elevates nicely in the part where you double the vocal. It seems that you have great familiarity with this song and that shines through in the performance.

I do know this song from Pierre Bensusan...but I had never been able to really find the notes of the finguer picking "by ear".
I decided to do it in this version just recently after buying the tablature on Pierre Bensusan's website (which I put as a PDF in one of my messages)

It,s a song that's played in lots of bars where I live.
It,s about Derry in Northern Ireland and the trouble,s at the time.
Really nice performance loved the finger picking too, cool stuff!!

oui en effet c'est une chanson composée par Phil Coulter ou il raconte son enfance à Derry

Le finguer picking est de Pierre Bensusan, un amoureux de l'irlande

Ecoutez ici son "voyage pour l'Irlande", en DADGAD
