Story Fest

I've been arsing around with this one for long enough now. Hard enough to write a story in a song so I struggled but kinda stumbled upon this. I came up with a riff first and built it into a song. It was gonna be an instrumental and I started twanging about with it with some lead on top. Then I stuck a name to it and then I thought, hang on... I could muster up a bit of story to that title... so there it is

2 vocal tracks
2 rhythm guitar tracks - left and right, right channel with a touch more reverb (internet tip!)
1 lead solo track
bass - garageband
drums - garageband

There's Gold On Up Those Hills

We loaded up our things once more onto the wagon
And put out those camp fires once again
I guess we weren't too sure of how to get there
But we knew we'd get there in the end

We'd heard all those stories of a good life
The works hard but you'll eat and drink your fill
I believe those dreams are getting closer now
I know there's gold on up those hills

For forty days and forty long nights we kept going
We just had one thought on our minds
That old life way back when it meant nothin now
Pretty soon we could leave it all behind

I know all those tales they told about Montana
About all those folk that work on the mill
I believe those dreams are getting closer
I know there's gold on up those hills

And one day out of nowhere we could see them
And we could see that river clear as day
And there were people just like us they'd travelled from afar
And we knew right then we were here to stay

We'd heard all those stories of a good life
The works hard but you'll eat and drink your fill
I believe those dreams are getting closer now
I know there's gold on up those hills

I like what you did here. This reminds me of alt rock/southern rock genre. Nice jangle guitar. The vocals are perfect. Like the chord changes n the chorus. Like the reverb trick  too

In baseball terms this is a home run...major awesomeness...the story is so good...told many times but not so much in songs that I have heard....
yes...we desire better lives sometimes, often times...to be free of oppression.
Mike you are a really good singer and songwriter...
lead reminds me of Willie...coolness..
it is another wonderful listen Mike.

Striking! Pure songcraft here, brilliant lyrics, chords and vocals. Everything works so well here, with some totally tasty guitar work thrown in there. I think this is one of my new favourites Mike, keep those great songs coming!

Great song Mike. Excellent songwriting and storytelling.

Love how it drives along and helps painting a picture of the story in my mind.

Well done Mike !! Really well done!

BTW, shouldn't this be under original songs?

good song, good vocal...in fact all is good
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I love stories and songs about the gold dreaming miners and pioneers. Great words (great imaging) and your vocals really shine here. The guitar solo is icing on the cake. Well done, Mike!
