I thank StephenM for bumping a 10 year old song of mine I had forgot about:
https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=6837.0

I decided to try to remake it, because I think I sing, play, and mix better now. So this morning here's what I came up with. I added "bass" and "puff organ" from a keyboard and drums from EZ drummer.

I found myself using some techniques to create dynamics that I learned recently when doing this cover of "Run" by Snowpatrol:

That's catchy. And that bass sounds good. I'd never have guessed it was a keyboard. Your keyboard must be much better than any I've had.

Holy smokes....I love it...especially the passion...when you kick that vocal up an octave.... way cool... and I hope you do some more... good sound!......and some good adds...on recording

I think the first song you write always holds a special place in your heart (like your first love).

I listened to both versions and liked them both. It's a good song, performed and recorded well - be proud!

That's a good song... I like the lyrics too. The melody and message is quite insistent and forces you to pay attention. All sounds good in headphones.

Thanks.  The keyboard was a Casio CT-X3000 ($300), but most of the same sounds are on a Casio CT-X700 which I also got for only $150. These are Casio's newest consumer models and have some pretty realistic sounds (600 tones).  The patches I used were "Wah Finger Bass" and "Puff organ".

I also played Casio CT-X patches on my cover of Coldplay's "The Scientist":

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

Great update. Definitely more full and professional sounding. Nice work!
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.
