Update: Below, in response to Flash Harry's comment, I've posted another version with real drums for comparison.

UPDATE: I originally posted this song in the under 60 second Fest as The Na Na Song. I received such good feedback from The Songcrafters here that I decided to finish it out into a full length song. I've left the drums out of this version because I'm still debating on whether this song needs drums or not? Any input on that is greatly appreciated.

Lorne Reid - guitar solos and bass guitar. LANDR - Mastering
Cabriolet
(V1) Riding along in a Cabriolet, in a world of Cabarets
Feeling the rush of wind-swept knolls, seeing beyond the cold

(Chr) Everywhere he goes, every turn he makes, clears away debris
Everything he learns, every road he takes, opens his eyes to see

(V2) A passenger of time along for the ride, taking it all in stride
The lighthouse beacon brightly shines, cleansing the beholder's mind

(Chr) Everywhere he goes, every turn he makes, clears away debris
Everything he learns, every road he takes, opens his eyes to see

(Brdg) But oh... he has to say, life's a big play, setting the stage
But oh... he has to ask, what's the next task, while avoiding the crash

(V3) Raising a glass of Cabernet, in a courtyard made of clay
Hoisting a pint of his favorite brew, refreshes his spirit anew

(Chr) Everywhere he goes, every turn he makes, clears away debris
Everything he learns, every road he takes, opens his eyes to see

Test, test, one, two, three.....is this mic on?

Hook

This is outstanding as is, I'm listening through crappy earbuds in a noisy Ice Skating rink and cant wait to crank this up later on in my house speakers. Very Zepplin in my opinion, not sure where drums would taken it but id like to hear.
Rock on!

Where do you begin?

It's epic. It's scope is huge.

It starts of in a Lennon and McCartneyesque style, develops and becomes proggier and proggier until it's full on Yes. Even with Bruford missing, he's right in there. I think you may be right about the drums, unless Bruford is free for an hour or so..., but I'm often wrong.

Arrangement is wonderful. A great mix of acoustic and electric guitars, is that really a bass guitar or is it an upright? Maybe it's an Ashbory, if not, I'd love to know how you got it to sound like it did.

The structure is awesome.

as is the playing
and recording
and production.

A fabulous song.

Can we have a 20 minute version next please, preferably with a massive rock passage?

This is a version of Cabriolet with real drums by Alain Levesque. It's also mastered by LANDR but at a lesser level

Thanks Hook and Flash Harry!

Flash Harry - Lorne played and recorded the lead guitars and bass at his place. All I know is the bass is a no name, 4 string electric bass made in Mexico. He plugs direct to his DAW. I'm not sure how he eq's or effects it to get that cool combination of treble and lows but I think a lot is in how he plays and picks it. It's coincidental that you've mentioned making a 20 minute, massive rock, version. It actually entered my thoughts of extending it with a "Yes" style prog rock instrumental outro but I thought it might be too long....maybe for the album version, lol. Thanks!

Massive song,sounds great.
To see how this would sound like with drums out of curiosity
there is only one drummer I would send it to....jarle.
This is right up his street,he is playing in a prog band just now.
He would fit like a glove into this.
Excellent track mate.

This is so good - I really admire the scope of what you have undertaken here. So many perfectly executed details in the instrumental arrangement. I also hear the prog, as well as a bit of Be Bop Deluxe-era Bill Nelson in those harmony guitars.

Well done, Farrell & Lorne!

Thanks Kenny! Without a doubt Jarle would be an excellent drummer for this song. Unfortunately I've already ask a drummer friend to record the real drums for this and he's currently working on them. 2019 is going to be a productive year for me so there will be other song opportunities for sure.

Oh my, this is epic. Hard to know where to start other than to say a brilliant piece of music and even that doesn't really cover it. As for drums, doesn't need it and the programming could drive you slightly mad a live drummer perhaps but for me it sounds perfect.    Willie
