That's a good deal, I bet they might take $350. Regardless you should buy that, it's cheaper than the BR800...trigger...pull...

I am actually going to pick up the Tascam 24SD about half way between my house and yours today. I need it for the 8 inputs when I have jams at the house, but were it be my main recorder (it wouldn't be as I am now a DAW junkie), I would want some sort of drum tracks.

I guess it just boils down to what your idiosyncratic needs are.

I am a DAW junkie myself. Did you get that DP24SD that was near Waldo?
I'm going today to check out the DP32SD. The only thing I don't understand
is why TASCAM would take away 2 essential tools (MIDI connectors and CD burner)
from their original design. The fact that you cannot sync midi to this model
renders it a downgrade instead of an upgrade IMO. I dont get the reasoning
behind lessening functionality. Anyway, I still think it's a great find as they are
including powered monitors and cables in the deal.

It turns out the guy had errands to run in Gainesville, so I didn't even have to make too much of a drive. It included a foot switch as well to record and stop remotely (handy in my situation during jams).

Since I am DAW-oriented these days, I'm just going to export the files (you can export multiple files at a time), so the lack of CD burner doesn't phase me in the least. The one thing I can't figure out is what the recording time limits are. I want to get a couple 32 GB cards, but I can't figure out how much recording time that will hold (8 wav tracks at a time).

I got mine mainly for the 8 simultaneous inputs for band recording (my very old BR-1600CD is ailing). Since I don't have any jams in the foreseeable future, you could certainly borrow the unit for a while. We could either meet half way, or I am picking up somebody at the JAX Airport on Xmas afternoon, and I could drop it off. Let me know.

If I'm not mistaken, you can expect the following record times for a single track (mono) with a 32 GB card:

File FormatTime (hours:minutes)
16-bit 44.1 kHz WAV   107:44
16-bit 48 kHz WAV99:12
24-bit 44.1 kHz WAV72:00
24-bit 48 kHz WAV66:08

That's for a single track, so you'd divide those times by the number of tracks used. For example, if you used 8 tracks, the maximum total record time with a 32 GB card would be:

File FormatTime (hours:minutes)
16-bit 44.1 kHz WAV   13:28
16-bit 48 kHz WAV12:24
24-bit 44.1 kHz WAV9:00
24-bit 48 kHz WAV8:16

HOWEVER, a 32 GB card will be formatted with FAT32 which has a file size limit of 4,294,967,295 bytes (about 4 GiB). Therefore, you can expect the following maximum times per song:

Approximate record times per song for a single track (mono):

File FormatTime (hours:minutes)
16-bit 44.1 kHz WAV   13:28
16-bit 48 kHz WAV12:24
24-bit 44.1 kHz WAV9:00
24-bit 48 kHz WAV8:16

Approximate record times per song for 8 tracks:

File FormatTime (hours:minutes)
16-bit 44.1 kHz WAV   1:41
16-bit 48 kHz WAV1:33
24-bit 44.1 kHz WAV1:07
24-bit 48 kHz WAV1:02

So, the bottom line is that, with a 32 GB SDHC card, you can expect to record 8 tracks for about an hour to an hour and 40 minutes, depending on the recording format you choose. Once that time is exceeded, you can create a new song and record for another hour to an hour and 40 minutes, and so on up to a total of about 8 hours to 13½ hours, depending on the recording format.

so many numbers...64...brain can't handle...math...time...running out...none to waste...nooooo

In my experience, I have a 32gig card sitting here with 15 songs, each 2-5mins. with 8-24 tracks used at 16bit. I'm a little scared of 24bit, actually typing hat makes it more stupid sounding than when I just think it.
Perhaps I'm reading the screen wrong & Ive hardly cracked the manual (theres another +++) but I can't really tell how much time is left. I'm sure page WTF of the manual would educate me in minutes but I woudn't be too nervouse about starting song 16.

I'm proud of you Blooby & I think you'll find the mixing/eq/matestering pretty useable and quality sounding. Might make it quicker to not transfer...faders man..faders! The transfer is quite easy and fast, it has an audio depot file you drag what you want on the DP24 there, plug in card and import...fast. Since it store the recordings in wav file (big +) you jut go into the song file to retrieve your master (& pre master mix) by dragging right to your desktop or into daw to clip ends and normalise.

The midi removal seems to have upset most of the Tascam die hards who love their 2400neo's. Since I have no interest in midi it matters not to me. wouldn't your controller handle the midi connections & you would just be plugging the device straight in?
The CD player (in my opinion) is completely unnecessary with the SDcard & usb connections. It's so easy to transfer tracks I wouldn't want to wait for the burn time, a lap top or PC is always faster than the installed ones. They are only useful for backing up proprietary formats nowadays. they also tend to be the first part to quite working...I say good riddance CD burner!

Rock on my friends!
