BOSS BR-800 AB Quantize does NOT work !

I though this function would loop exactly even if I didn't hit the A-B button exactly on the beat.

I tried with a simple 12 bar blues.

I have tried tapping the AB button exactly on the first beat in measure 1 and the first beat in measure 13 ( also tried measure 12 ) but it just don't work and will give me an uneven loop.

I also tried tapping the AB button slightly before the beat and also slightly after the beat but it will not give me an even loop.

Tried tapping the AB button about 2 quarters before/after the first measure and the same with the last measure but with the same result :(

Even with a metronome in 4/4 I can clearly hear that it is not even and there is a distinct trill with the metronome sound.

This is a potential deal breaker for me !

I'm not sure about the BR-800 because I don't have access to one. But with other BRs, the AB Repeat function adds about 70 milliseconds of silence to the end of each iteration of the loop. So even if you mark the loop precisely (using AB Quantize or whatever), it won't loop properly because of the extra 70 ms. A better way to loop with a BR is to copy the section as many times as needed. This is easily accomplished as the COPY function prompts you for the number of copies.

Hi again 64Guitars  :D

It seems like the BOSS people doesn't know the true meaning of the word exact.

From the manual Page 44:
"Setting the Repeat Region to an Exact Interval"

This is IMO a very unmusical major design flaw !

Then there is what BOSS call Loop Recording which to me is yet another mystery :)
I've looked at this video but dont really know what he is doing ?

https://youtu.be/IFIs7FYK5RQ?t=1m2s

He is obviously using a pedal and the loop is perfectly smooth !

Wonder how he set this up ???

Here is another guy doing loop Recording

Again with a perfectly smooth loop ???

Cheers !

In loop recording mode (track REC button blinking), as soon as you stop recording, the recorded portion of the track will be copied about 200 times and continue playing back so you can record over it on another track. The copying happens very quickly so you shouldn't notice any delay. See page 41 of the manual and give it a try.

I tried it but dont really knows what is going on.

Then manuals explanation doesn't help much !

If I use auto punch in and set it for 8 bars it loops perfectly when recording and I can do what Alex Hutchings does.

I am going to do some experimentation with this.

Cheers !

If looping is this important to you, you really need a loop station. I've used all the Boss ones, I love my RC300, I have q little vocal jam man I haven't used yet. The jam man ones have SD cards to save loops. Loopers are the bomb!

I just want to figure out what it can do for me creatively.

I've tried most loopers and have a Boomerang 3 and a JamMan Delay since years back.

The Boomerang is by far the most clever musical looper I have tried and I totally love it, especially synced to my BeatBuddy. It's the ultimate combo for looping IMO.

Can't live without loopers !

Cheers !
