Still in the 70's ... Just ... With this classic 1979 Joy Division track.
I've wanted to have a go at this for ages and the feeling only intensified when I saw Peter Hook & The Light last November.
Didn't think I could do it justice, but when I got my voice back after having the 1st bout of Man-Flu this year, I figured, what the hell ... Let's do it.
Rather pleased I did ;D

All recorded on a Boss BR-600, except the intro/ending drone which was recorded on an iPad 3 using various freebie synths & the iKaossilator. The snare drum was imported using the BR-600 Toneload feature, as the existing snare sounds didn't quite fit.

Here's the result:

Intro
Radio, live transmission.
Radio, live transmission.

Verse 1
Listen to the silence, let it ring on.
Eyes dark, grey lenses, frightened of the sun.
We would have a fine time living in the night.
Left to blind destruction,
Waiting for our sight.

Verse 2
And we would go on as though nothing was wrong.
And hide from these days we remained all alone.
Staying in the same place, just staying out the time.
Touching from a distance,
Further all the time.

Chorus
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.

Verse 3
Well I could call out when the going gets tough.
The things that we've learnt are no longer enough.
No language, just sound, that's all we need know
To synchronise love to the beat of the show.
And we could dance.

Chorus
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.
Dance, dance, dance, dance, dance, to the radio.

Another version is on it's way too. Voodoo John (on hearing my man-flu plight) is recording his vox (much better than mine) over my backing track.
Watch this space!!

Ah fantastic!

I saw Joy Division at the Manchester Apollo back in either '79 or '80, it wasn't that long before Ian Curtis killed himself, they were supporting the Buzzcocks, but Joy Div just blew me away.

This has the same manic feel to it that they brought to the stage that day.
We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different
- Kurt Vonnegut.

chuckizzet

yet again another blistering cover...never fail to be surprised at the quality of your song choices and interpretations   ;D

This is so damn fine. A perfect rendition, and it has that same hyperactive manic intensity that makes me think of Ian Curtis doing his crazy dancing to it. The bass on this alone is staggeringly awesome. And your mixing / production is a thing of splendour. Brilliant!

SwanSong

Great cover not familar with it but a superb sound and listen
kind of had a hint of the song MAJOR THOM. forgot who did
that . but truly this is a great and fun listen to the top NEIL .!

cuthbert

Old Joy Division fan here...very nicely done! I dig all the electronic atmospherics - they added a touch more mystery to it.

V cool Mr Shark  8) I agree with Greeny, thought the bass was particularly fine and I thought your vox suited the song perfectly. It'll be interesting to see what VJ makes of it! Man-flu - poor bunny!
