I've never made that connection, however now you say it, I can see it. No wonder I loved Asia when they released their first album, although i was and still am a massive John Wetton fan. Magnum, well I grew up with them - I used to go to watch them at the Marquee when ever they were playing, and saw them many, many times

Just listened to some Magma - now that is very, very strange, and not my cup of tea at all :-)!
