phantasm777

thats the name - nick i use online and for music, had it a long time. as well as phantasm777.com. anyways i started my musical journey in 67, age 8 playing drums. could never really afford the drums i wanted, the cheaper ones were all to small of a kit. so in 74 not only did i start writing music and poems, lyrics, i took up bass. got damn good at ti too, if i say so myself. so much so i thought, if i can bend these thick-ass bass strings imagine what i could do on guitar?!? HUGE  mistake. at best i was a medicore guitarist, i had my moments but i could see it wasnt for me, but good to know!. so i played guitar with my ibanez 75 flying v from 79 - 89 or so, then back to bass, then by early 90's i wasnt doing much of anything, between personal problems, manic depression and more things, well lets just say i somehow managed to snap out  of it after many yrs.

just last yr, thanks in some part to an old guitarist and friend of mine going back to my first bands in 74, i got back into it. very disheartened on how my bass and guitar skills slipped away, instead of doing nothing, i said screw it and just played them, not a lot but, enough for during recording sessions of my own stuff and some current collaborations with chris vaisvil, who as i said i've known since 74.

i have 2 guitars, one junky but cool one, and a bc rich warlock with a floyd rose on it, which im not that big of a fan of after having it. i have an ibanez bass, and a black flying V bass which is also a no name one and i havent used on these recordings. my drums were made a california co. music store called surf city. HB drums. not bad, supposedly made to pearl specs. they were the only co. who had a big kit i could actually afford. and provided i put on the right heads, they actually sound very good, not now, i have heads on for a try at something different and i dont like them, so i'll go back to evans heads once these shitty aquarians are done, or i get enough money to replace all 9 heads.

my cymbals, are zildjians, some are titanium, as the hi hats, some not, paiste, and sonar, which i think  zildjian makes. the toms - 7 of them are all around the front of me like a sonic cockpit. a 8 and 10 on one stand, a 12 and 13 ride on the 22 inch bass (would love to get a bonzo 28 in.) a 14 and 15 on a stand to the right of me and a floor 16. i have a pearl snare. my hihat, cause of all the drums is a remote hihat, which i totaly dig. also a cowbell. if you listen close i do use a lot of bass foot, a bonzo infleunce, though i try not to use it too much now, cause im still working out all the bugs of being new at making my own music entirely and dont want my drums to over power everything else. (since thats the instrument i am best at ... for now! :P

i will do some covers, as well as original, and also bring back some songs i wrote and or performed in past bands like - purple mountains. i would like collaborations IF you respect the fact that i might not like the band or song for a cover collaboration request. nothing personal, i just dont like playing songs i dont like, simple as that and no offense intended. im up for adding bass or drums even vocals for collabs. perhaps some guitars or keys though those are my weaker instruments, overall, but getting better at all of them slowly.

if also lyrics are needed i could probably help there. to date i've written over 1800 lyrics and poems. not nearly as much and as frequent as i used to. also if its a original song someone wants help on it, if i dont like it, or its something i feel i cannot do or contribute to, please dont take offence or be angry. perhaps i'll do your next song request.

i just have to like, feel, the song. if i do, then im in! if i dont like it, surely doesnt mean its bad, its just me. im pretty picky, thats why i cannot review songs i dont like here, whats the point of the negativity? i sure wouldnt want such a reviewer for my music laying down a bunch of things he dont like about it, (though if done with respect and to help me better my craft in whatever way, i look forward to constructive criticism) so i surely will not do that.

not sure what else to say but ive always said music is my blood. i could survive losing blood, but i cannot survive losing music. it's like my eternal battery. and has also been more faithful to me than any woman (dont get me wrong i adore women, but damn they're a freakin' handfull!!!!!!!!!

Oooh... live drums! That's what a lot of us miss with our machine-generated beats. You could well find yourself in demand on here! Anyway, welcome to the community and I hope you find it as fun and supportive as the rest of us.

just like to point out, if i dont comment doesnt mean i think it sucks, its just for some reason im not into it. some genres i dont like as a whole, i would rather not say which, cause ive no need to accidently insult anyones taste. as far as ive heard so far, no one sucks here, just a matter of different styles and tastes, which is all fine.

just got my gibson - epiphone eb-3 bass ( SG bass) killer! expecting my epiphone g-400 guitar  - SG guitar. i love how similiar the specs are and that they are from a gibson company. as i said i got the bass already, what action a bit heavy but solid! the sg guitar is coming in a few days.
with those 2 new instruments it's sure not only to inspire me even more but also have better equipment. not that my bc rich warlock is bad, its just not my fav guitar. epiphones are about $1000 cheaper than a gibson sg. without being cheap. the bass is cherry red the guitar is black. once my fingers have gotten better, action-wise look out!

as for collabs. any cover song collab. i prefer a lot of music from 64 to about 77. obviously some bands i dont like or songs i dont like, i wont do. it would be uninspiring and why do something you dont like and cant put your all into it? anyways, a little update that i didnt want as a seperate topic, but buried in an already used topic.

working on doing the bass and drums with andy casson for pinball wizard. holidays put a big delay on for us both. also doing the drums for his latest zep type song original. i did the drums for them, not sure if its good enough, till i await andy's return.

i would love collabing on originals or covers, but again i am spoiled. i have to like it, i have to feel it! i really dont mean any offense if i reject a collab, please dont take it personal i get rejected all the time, it just drives me further on .... or insane! :P

ahhh seems the best way is just to look around and offer rather than be asked. this way i wont have to be in a positiion to turn anything down. i admit im picky in tatse, not nearly as much as i was when i was younger, but there are genre's i simply do not like, what can i say? nothing! i will not say which genre's and such because i see no reason on indulging in the negative. especially when there is plenty of positives to be had here! sorry if i came off abrasive or prickish initially, it's just, i gotta do what i feel in my heart and soul, just like everyone else.
