Quote from: Mike_S on November 08, 2022, 03:09:47 PMHa yes i too get the "limited space/time" thing. I record vocals and my wife sits in the other room, the door is closed but she is in pain from my efforts (especially in my more unusual destination insanity moments... eh Steve? :)

But great work, and yes what a tune. Got to be right up there in the finest pieces of country recorded. You did good here Doug, fabulous rhythm playing, pretty flawless with a great feel. Good vocals too, but I get where you are coming from itching to post the track when you get so close to the finish line, Sounds a lot like me too!

Just this evening I was downstairs, and I thought my wife was upstairs in the bedroom.  But it was abnormally quiet.  I thought she was taking a nap. Eventually I realized:  Wait a sec, What? She is NOT here!  She must have gone out!  So I immediately rigged a microphone, music stand with lyric and chord sheet, set the laptop and interface and managed to record a few more vocal takes, and of course fiddled the mix a bit... so the MP3 in original post is now replaced - I tend to do this a lot  ::) .  I also have received word that JP may try to add something - I sent him a file with the MIDI lead guitar removed. I'm excited!  :)

Webb wrote some great song, This is really nice, There is just something about this song that really works it capturing that nostalgic feeling nd easy going flow works really well, You done a  nice cover here, musically capturing it really well, a lot put it into it i can hear, nice work

You've done a fine version of this song ! When I was in my early teens, my dad had a Glenn Campbell album and it was always a relief if he played it as I liked Galveston and Wichita Lineman.. he had, for the time, an old-fashioned taste in music so it was a nice change from his Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Andy Williams and military bands which he usually played.

Quote from: des0free on November 07, 2022, 06:27:32 PMThis song was written by Jimmy Webb and made popular by Glen Campbell, hitting #1 in 1969.  My dad used to listen to Glen Campbell, but I rediscovered this song by hearing a TV special about 5 years ago that had members of the US military performing songs.

Hi des0free,
Another new song for, and I love your version.
Jimmy Webb is another great composer, and Glen Campbell is an icon.
Beautiful choice of music.
Well done!!!

If it still were the sixties you certainly would! You'd get a room and board. A small weekly allowance and a whole lot of time to sing. We'd have Ray Brookes sitting in a tower, writing songs by the boatload. Jean Pierre making magnificent (magnifique!) orchestral backing tracks. StephenM doing his thing for the youth market (The great unwashed and hippies!) with Hilary offering her vocals for those Jefferson Airplane -type of songs.

In the 70's your services would be much the same. You'd get a stall and a haystack. A stetson hat for your troubles with Ray Brookes still making the songs. With Jean Pierre trying his darnest to make the pedalsteel cry. StephenM would still be doing this thing. Going towards progressive rock. Perhaps too progressive as at this point Hilary would be flying solo. Performing in sold out auditoriums all around the world.

There would also be a new kid in town. JohnBee. At this point he'd be the main seller. Making music for people with brains. The audiences might be a bit smaller, but the prices would be that much higher.

Somewhere in the distance we could also hear echoes from Mike_S. He'd be polishing his guitar chops while thinking about things to say. The next decade would be his.

As the decade was nearing the end we'd be hearing a lot about a certain ODH. His hyperactive behaviour and use of distortion on acoustic instruments. He'd be the bringer of all things distorted although he'd also have a weird infatuation towards 80's girl bands.

There were also weird tales about a certain Ted. Whether he really is/was the drummer for the Dead Kennedys is up to debate (i bet he is/was), but one thing is for certain. He had the heart of a traveler and wherever he moved he'd make music and suffer from electric disturbances. In this totally unexplained way he had an umblical cord kind of connection to ODH. OHD made the noise, Ted received it.

In the 80's Des0free struggled a bit. Ray Brookes had already grown out of his boots (we should have bought him new ones) and turns out he was moonlightning. In the top-10 there were several hit songs seemingly competing against each other yet they were all written by Ray. Jean Pierre did his thing with Gainsbourg, but there was something fishy happening between Jean and Birkin that lead to a rift between these two gentlemen. There were some rumours that Jean might in fact be the same person as Johnny Hallyday, but they were never comfirmed.

At this point JohnBee was living in a castle. Counting his blessings. Reading his fanmail. Occasionally appearing in the primetime tv. Having his own series Filthy Rich and Enjoying It.

Hilary was competing with Debbie Harry while Mike_S was having his day playing in a New Wave rock outfit. The singer of the band was one Kenny Mac. They made it big. There were talks that Kenny Mac was a contender to become the next person to play James Bond on silver screen, but he opted out. He didn't want to act with Grace Jones after hitting Dolph Lundgren in a cocktail bar. The hit was said to be the main reason why Lundgren became an action actor. He wanted to process the trauma and his bruised ego by playing a winner in the movies. Seeing that the movies just keep on coming he still has a lot to process.

After a dry spell Des0Free managed to find his audience. He was now making theme songs for Disney. After having lived in a room, and a stall he didn't enjoy being in open spaces and this time we put him in a box. But after noticing that handling his business in a box was hard, and the acoustics were bad for singing he pushed his legs thru the box. In this magical Disney moment (suddenly the butterfiles appeared!) he found that this way he could move around and still feel close to home.

At this time there were several other people doing great music and hitting great highs, but they were not mentioned in this short biography of the alternate life of Des0Free. They can consider themselves as lucky... The author reserves the right to use them in future chapters.

Somewhere in the distance where even the echoes fade...Even under the radars. We'd still be hearing StephenM doing his thing.

I think you might have a point there! Maybe i should have just shortened it to: DesoFree has such a special talent that if it was up to me i'd totally go Colonel Tom Parker on him.
That didn't sound right either :)

Perhaps i should sleep more. Some air would probably do some good too...

Funny stuff... That you can generate such an intricate story so quickly fits with my feeling you are a great songwriter!  I do not feel I am nearly as imaginative.
