Perfectionism through iteration. A tendency to remix, and repost, again and again until the song is just right.
Quote from: oldrottenhead on July 26, 2009, 03:01:40 PMdefinitely got a bad case of boskoschwartzitis here is the third take.
if we use it often enough it could end up in the oxford english dictionary
Obsessive perfectionism. Squeezing more production value out of a microrecorder than is believed possible.
Distinct from Boskoschwartzitis (https://songcrafters.org/community/general-discussion-b8/bossbr-net-glossary/msg40720/#msg40720) in that the song is beyond perfect when it debuts.
If the song is a game changer, and some people hate you for it, you might have gone AndyR.

Hmm ... should I be offended by this? ??? I would tend to say I'm more of an obsessed perfectionist than "chronically dissatisfied with my mix." However, admittedly, the two go hand-in-hand. Just seems like one has more of a negative connotation than another. :-\ Anyone want to back me up, here?
Quote from: Bosko Schwartz on July 27, 2009, 02:16:57 PMHmm ... should I be offended by this? ???
Absolutely not! I'm one of your many admirers here. Yours is "perfectionism through iteration." I'll update the definition.
However, maybe the glossary wasn't such a good idea if there's the
potential for hurt feelings.

The Bluesberry Bump, I love it Ted. You caught the intention perfectly, it was to bring brilliance back up from history that the new folks haven't a chance to hear yet. Hehehe. I encourage everybody to indulge in a little Bluesberry bump once in a while.

The perception that on BossBR.net,
size matters, inversely.
Quote from: Bluesberry on July 01, 2009, 07:17:05 PM...it is not "microBR envy" but "microBR board envy". It feels like the party is over at microBR Post your work section and the other recorder sections are all cobwebs and drunken guys sleeping in the corners, none too lively.
This perception is demonstrably untrue. Many of us Micro BR users take up charitable work, and volunteer to visit the sections dedicated to other BR recorders. We have a schedule posted on a secret section of this site, and every day one of us is delegated to go looking for
drunken guys sleeping in the corners lonely topics in the less active boards.
Look
here (https://songcrafters.org/community/br-900-b67/%27red-hot%27-(cover)/msg40715/#msg40715). My day was yesterday.
NOTE: This is just for fun - I agree with most others that it does not matter how a song is produced, save recording something directly from the radio/stereo. It's the end result that matters.A BR owner (of any model) that produces an audio arrangement utilizing the features available within the unit itself. The mastered mp3/wave file is then delivered via CD/USB/Flash.
Usage Example(Excerpts from a post in the BR600 section):
Quote from: launched on July 19, 2009, 09:51:42 PMYou are a BR600 purist - I love that. I'm an MBR man...
Quote from: g1ngerjack on July 20, 2009, 11:53:19 PM...We purists need to stick together! Yes I know it's a labour of love, but I do like to try & keep everything on the BR600, if only so I can go back to it in it's entirety at a later date...
Quote from: Ferryman on July 22, 2009, 06:52:34 AMGreat stuff, pretty much spot on and very well recorded as well. And very impressive that it's all BR, kudos indeed (especially that syndrum!). I like the idea you are a purist, but as an MBR purist I would say you are taking the easy path with the BR600! Just kidding, this is great stuff and as someone whose musical prime was from 1978 to 1985 this is right up my alley.

When a BossBR.net member's real life commitments allow only enough time to quickly scan new posts and make very few comments for a period of time.
Advance notice is sometimes given to prevent being tagged with a "Where's" (https://songcrafters.org/forum/general-discussion-b8/bossbr-net-glossary/msg40939/#msg40939) post.
Usage Example:
Will be lurking for a few days, don't think me rude. (https://songcrafters.org/forum/general-discussion-b8/will-be-lurking-for-a-few-days-don't-think-me-rude/0/)
When a beloved BossBR.net member, who has not publicly announced that he/she has switched to Lurk Mode (https://songcrafters.org/forum/general-discussion-b8/bossbr-net-glossary/msg40937/#msg40937), turns up missing. Usage Example:
Where did Greeny Go? (https://songcrafters.org/forum/general-discussion-b8/where-did-greeny-go/0/)
Weird things can happen when one of these threads (https://songcrafters.org/forum/micro-br-b65/bad-things-(cover)/msg35817/#msg35817) surfaces. Nobody really knows the origins of this type of phenomenon. Recently a thread (https://songcrafters.org/forum/micro-br-b65/bad-things-(cover)/msg35817/#msg35817) of this nature was so powerfull that it made a forum member get pulled into an alternate dimension where he was seduced by not one but two devilish and mesmerizing ladies (https://songcrafters.org/forum/micro-br-b65/the-tale-of-two-ladies/0/). Rumor has it that he never really returned and that the person walking around calling themselves Geir is really an ancient amphibious creature that just inhabits his empty shell of a body, while the real Geir is cavorting still with those ladies. The Horror, the horror, the horror. If you see this kind of thread, do not go near, shut the computer down immediately, put on a tinfoil (https://songcrafters.org/forum/general-discussion-b8/bossbr-net-glossary/msg40933/#msg40933) hat and lie perfectly still underneath your bed for at least 3 hours, just to be safe.

How about "LETNES Syndrome" which stands for "Last Edit: Today. Next Edit: Shortly."
Used by the more caledonian of the UK brothers.
Braw - rather fine. Slightly less so than FMGWABP but more than a half hearted 'Rather good chaps'.
Can be replaced in some contexts by the word 'Canny' in Newcastle and the surrounding areas
('Wheys yor tee short bonny laad?'
'Canny'
('How do you find your vest my man?'
'Very rather good, thank you for asking.'))
but not all.

glossary contextualisation is the process of assigning meaning, either linguistic or as a means of interpreting the environment within which an expression or action is executed.
FMGWABP
TIP: When you want to use a term or expression that might not be clear to everyone, enclose it in
[abbr] [/abbr] tags (abbreviation). Here's an example:
[abbr=f@@k me gently with a barge pole!]fmgwabp[/abbr]After your message is posted, it will look like this:
fmgwabpWhen the reader places his mouse over "fmgwabp", he'll see a hint that gives the full meaning (try it on the "fmgwabp" above).
You could also use
[acronym] [/acronym] tags instead, but they do the same thing and "abbr" is easier to type.
Alternatively, you can use the
[url] [/url] tags to link to the entry in this glossary. For example:
definitely got a bad case of [url=http://songcrafters.org/community/general-discussion-b8/bossbr-net-glossary/msg40720/#msg40720]boskoschwartzitis[/url] here is the third take. After it's posted, it will look like this:

Clicking the word "boskoschwartzitis" will open the message from the glossary that contains the definition.

:( Maximum Shit Ratio:When the ratio of views/listens to a song is so lopsided that one gets the impression that the song blows so much donkey ass that it should never have been posted.
Example:
Quote from: Bosko Schwartz on July 29, 2009, 05:06:57 PMWell, posting the Void tune (https://songcrafters.org/forum/br-1600-b69/'patience'-by-the-void/0/) didn't go over so well (64 views & 6 replies -- talk about Maximum Shit Ratio)!
;D Retardiculous Ratio:1. A song is so damned good that those who have listened to it have opened the topic so many times to listen that it distorts the ratio of views/listens to replies to Retardiculous proportions. (Example: This is a song (the closest I've come to country) (https://songcrafters.org/forum/micro-br-b65/this-is-a-song-(the-closest-i've-come-to-country)/0/) - currently at 548 views to 58 replies).
2. A song is so insanely good that it renders people "speechless," keeping the ratio of views/listens to replies to Retardiculous proportions. (Example: Don't Think Twice (https://songcrafters.org/forum/micro-br-b65/don't-think-twice/0/) - currently at 159 views to 28 replies).
:o Retardiculous: A twisted combination of being beyond ridiculous, beyond retarded, and even beyond FMGWABP all at once. Can refer to the most incredibly wonderful or insanely heinous things. :o
Example:
Hottest 100 Songs of All Time (https://songcrafters.org/forum/general-discussion-b8/hottest-100-songs-of-all-time/0/?action=post;quote=37868;num_replies=9;sesc=b7cc9b17dc50aa793031e64f4a819b7b)

And what is the definition of "hot?" Are they trying to say these are literally the 100 greatest songs -- from any genre -- of all time??? I am a HUGE Nirvana fan, but to put "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at #1 is retarded. It's beyond retarded, it's retardiculous.

A. It happens to many of us, and I can only express extreme joy and satisfaction when it is not me ;), because I am below the radar for that particular moment. And I can only hope somebody gets a deep chuckle when it's my turn...

Quote from: launched on August 18, 2009, 10:54:55 AMI wonder if BB code has hidden smileys - Skype has a bunch of them.
I don't know if there are any hidden smileys in BB Code, but you can use smileys found on the web. For example, here are a couple from freesmileys.org/ (http://=http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)...
(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-music039.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-music021.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
It's easy to use the smileys from freesmileys.org (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php). Just click the "Forum Code" box below the smiley and press Ctrl-C to copy the text to the clipboard. Then paste that text into your message.
If the smiley you want to use is too big, simply add width and/or height values to the [img] tag. The default BB Code smileys are 15 x 15 pixels.
For example, the following smiley (whiney?) is too big:
(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/big/big-smiley-005.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/free-big-smiley.php)
[url=http://www.freesmileys.org/free-big-smiley.php][img]http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/big/big-smiley-005.gif[/img][/url]
By adding width and height to the [img] tag, we can shrink it to normal size:
(http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/big/big-smiley-005.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/free-big-smiley.php)
[url=http://www.freesmileys.org/free-big-smiley.php][img

Quote from: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=nsfwNot Safe For Work. Used to describe Internet content generally inappropriate for the typical workplace, i.e., would not be acceptable in the presence of your boss and colleagues (as opposed to SFW, Safe For Work).
When I leave comments in topics started by others, with links to my own declined topics with the hope that someone else will click over and bump (https://songcrafters.org/community/general-discussion-b8/bossbr-net-glossary/msg40788/#msg40788) my topic out of obscurity.
This definition is written in the first person because I may be the only sad schmuck that does this.
It's less blatant, but more desperate than masterbumping (https://songcrafters.org/community/general-discussion-b8/bossbr-net-glossary/msg41446/#msg41446).

Listenability !!! : probably everyone's definition is a little different, but hey........"played often" "enjoyed immensely" "brings a high degree of listening pleasure" etc.
Quote from: http://thread-jacking.urbanup.com/2010833Taking over a thread on a message board by taking a part of the original posted topic, twisting it around and "hijacking" the thread itself. What happens is that the original content contained in the post becomes moot and whatever the "Thread Jacker" has manipulated the content to be becomes the new content thereby "hijacking" the original intent of post. People now respond to the "thread jacker's" input and the that becomes the focus of the tread.

Fear of tweaking effect parameters
Quote from: 64Guitars on September 23, 2008, 02:53:38 PMBecause of this tweakaphobia, I decided not to allow direct binary sharing of patches in my Micro BR Patch Documenter (http://www.geocities.com/sixtyfourguitars/software/MBRPatchDoc/index.html) program. I tried that in the past with a program I wrote for the BR-864, but the idea was unsuccessful because everyone wants to download new effect patches, but nobody wants to create new patches to upload. Obviously, if nobody uploads, there will be nothing available to download. And that's exactly what happened. So, I thought that if Micro BR Patch Documenter only allowed you to share your patches as text, then users would have to actually enter the patch settings into their Micro BR in order to try out the patch. In doing so, I hoped that they'd soon realize that patch editing is quite easy, and this would encourage them to create their own patches which they'd in turn share with others. That way, I had hoped that a large library of custom patches would become available.
I encourage all tweakaphobics to confront their fears and start creating new effects patches. Then share those patches with other users by posting the settings in the Share your Patches (https://songcrafters.org/forum/share-your-patches/0/) child board, using Micro BR Patch Documenter (http://www.geocities.com/sixtyfourguitars/software/MBRPatchDoc/index.html) to paste the settings into a message. With any luck, other users will learn from entering your patch settings and start creating and sharing patches of their own in a sort of snowball effect. So, by merely contributing one patch, you could potentially be rewarded for your efforts by the availability of many new user-contributed patches, eventually.

I am on it Geir, I accept the challenge, to find the missing posts, it may be dangerous, it may be life altering, it may even involve Prog (shudder to think I may need to invoke the prog Gods, but it has to be done, for the good of all those lost posts). I will need my strength, a few red ales should help. This shall be my weekend project, see what I can find out. I'll be back..............................!!!

Someone who provides positive comments on posted music, but includes a suggestion about panning.
Quote from: Ferryman on September 18, 2009, 08:01:04 AMA minor consideration - the mix all seems quite "centred" to me, I'd be tempted to spread the guitars a bit wider in the mix. But nothing worth worrying about.
I'm the biggest panhole of all:
Quote from: Ted on August 25, 2009, 12:23:51 PMGet closer to the mic for more presence in the vocals. Use panning, and spread things out a bit. Fill the space more.
..and...
Quote from: Ted on August 27, 2009, 05:37:45 PM[Y]ou can pan T1V1 all the way left, and T2V2 all the way right. Level and reverb both tracks equally. It'll really fill the space without sounding "doubled."
...and...
Quote from: Ted on July 27, 2009, 05:07:48 PMSounded even better in headphones, but it also revealed that everything is panned to center. The only tweak I'd suggest would be to pan things around a bit.
...and many many others (https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?action=search2;params=YWR2YW5jZWR8J3wxfCJ8c2VhcmNodHlwZXwnfDJ8Inx1c2Vyc3BlY3wnfFRlZHwifGJyZHwnfDMsNjUsNjYsNjcsNjgsNjksNzAsNzEsNzMsNzR8InxzaG93X2NvbXBsZXRlfCd8fCJ8c3ViamVjdF9vbmx5fCd8fCJ8c29ydF9kaXJ8J3xkZXNjfCJ8c29ydHwnfHJlbGV2YW5jZXwifHNlYXJjaHwnfHBhbiBwYW5uaW5n).

"WTF Happened To My Post"
A frustrated and slightly angry version of "'SICOTOB" aka "Senility Posting Syndrome" (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=3785.msg52234#msg52234). When your dead sure you did post a comment and now it's gone !
"Board Skewer"
What happens when someone shows up after being off line for a while and puts loads of comments in on posts that are a week or two old, completely skewering the board by pushing all the new posts to page 3 or 4 and bringing the page 3 or 4 ones back to the top. You can either be a "board skewer" (which is what I am right now) or observe a "board skewer" happening.
BTW, this generally only happens on the MBR board. A board skewer on the other recorder boards just moves post 6 to post 1 :)
Cheers,
Nigel (Extreme Panholer and Chief Board Skewer)
I woke up this morning and have 2 pages of stuff I've replied to to sort...... Its like having a plugged toilet, and somebody dropping a #2 (taking a crap) and leaving a floater. Everyone sees it, but nobody says a word.
Great term Chief Board Skewer!
"If I were your producer..."
A preface to offering constructive, and admittedly subjective production advice.
Can also mean "If I could micromanage your song..." (Deep down, that's probably what I'll be thinking when I use this.)
Quote from: Ted on March 24, 2010, 12:32:17 PMIIWYP I'd probably mush it up a bit (with distortion, excessive reverb or something) and subdue it in the mix during those parts.

Tight as a Squirrel's Ass (TAASA) - A Geirism (1) to play concisely in time or with a sense of groove; (2) cool; (3) peachy-keen; (4) from the literal fastened squirrel's anus.
