These are very exciting times. Who'd have thought that shiny little BR could bring people together like this and encourage so much music and collaboration? It's truly incredible.

video coming soon!  :)

Well, what a great song.  I really like that bass line.  The vocal sounds great.  The shimmery guitar at the beginning really grabs you, really great touch.  The vocals sound so similar it is hard to tell who is singing what, very in-synch.  At the very end, is that someone taking a haul off a cig or some other rolled leaf filled tube?

I wish!  :D

That's me sighing / breathing with relief that I'd got through the vocal without screwing it up! It's weird how alike our voices sound - makes for good harmonies though. And you're right - Flash's bass is bloody brilliant.

The shimmering guitar is my tele going through the 'SQR TR' tremelo patch. It's a great patch, that one - definitely one of my faves. I think the other layer of electric is the 'Supercln' patch. The acoustic was straight into the in-built mic.

Thanks for the lovely feedback everyone  :)

Wow.
Just plain old Wow.
Looks like I have to step up the game here now, folks. I didn't think that kind of sound could come out of the BR, and then there's you guys going around making wicked old school rock tunes with it.

I hope Jemima's Kite continues to make more music. I want to hear more. And more.

And more.

I can't think of enough superlatives. This was just unbelievably good and professional. If you aren't selling albums, why?

Jemima's Kite
Congratulations guys!  Well written and performed and great production for an all M-BR job. Love the harmonies, the guitar sounds and that's a mighty full bass sound you're getting there Mike.  Sounds like you guys had fun with this one and looking forward to hearing more.  With both Tim and Jim in the same group there shouldn't be any shortage of new material to work with!

I haven't commented on this one so far, so I thought I would- this is another great song and the mix is spot on. When ORH's ears are back to normal, can we have it's jemima's kite mixed like this? Love the video on Soundclick as well. Who does that and creates the imagery? The dwarf pic on Soundclick is great for this. You really have a nice overall package with jk. T-shirts please!

Cheers,

Nigel

I did that one. I used to do freelance illustration, and still do a fair amount of painting / art / design. It's where I started creatively - even before the music kicked in. I've done so many album covers for myself that I've lost count. All the latest ones are on my soundclick site. I enjoy the design part just as much as the music...  :)

And as for dwarfs... not sure where that love comes from, lol. The same goes for octopi. Both get a regular look-in in my lyrics / art etc  :D :D :D

You'd think they would appeal to me. But funnily enough, they don't!  :D

Question for you guys - are there strings on this? I'm hearing strings in the chorus. If there aren't, you've done a great job to make me think there are. If there are, what did you use?

Cheers,

Nigel

No strings, just a load of vocal harmonies and guitar!  :)

Flash added some piano too.

It's the kind of song that begs for strings though - I always have that kind of arrangement in my head, and even though I could add a poor approximation of strings on a keyboard, it's not the same as a proper string section.

Nigel,

I'm not sure, I may have put some synth strings in. I really can't remember. Tim's workrate is so high I can't even remember all the tunes we've done.

If there are, they will be from my Yamaha Clavinova. It's the only synth I have. I wanted weighted keys. The Yamaha was the best feel I could find. The XG stuff is OK as far as it goes.

I'll believe there are some - I can definitely here a nice string line in the chorus. Works really well, lovely song. And still loving the dwarf pics.

naw i think it was on ladybird, i dont think there are any string keys on this one i think its an effect caused by the harmonics between all the instruments in the mix. i think i recall mixing the keys in seperately and putting lots of effects in to get a john lennon imagine type feel to them, so there are lots of tap delays reverb and echos going on with the piano.

OK, that could be it. It's the chorus "sweet misery" harmonies and I wondered if the rich production is making me hear a string line. It's just going round in the headphones at the moment. No strings on Filthy Animal that just kicked in. Except five rusty ones on each guitar....

Cheers,

Nigel

hey! my bass is brand new and the strings are shiny and not at all rusty!

A couple of nights left out in the garden should sort that out though....        ;D

I'm playing my Takamine jumbo 12-string acoustic... it always adds a nice 'lushness' to the mix. And this is the only JK track with an acoustic guitar on it, so it sounds quite different to the others anyway.

Not much rust on my strings, but plenty of DUST - especially on those upper frets where my fingers rarely venture...  :D
