I've read that the new Gorillaz album was recorded entirely on an iPad. Now I'm starting to pay attention...

very interesting indeed,

todd rundgrens  album arena was done completely on his laptop. is a long read but might be found interesting by some http://mixonline.com/recording/tracking/music-todd-rundgren/

but he is a bit of a pioneer regarding studios and recording innovations etc.

I wanted to add a few things I found out about the app.  First of all, you have some options at rudimentary sound sculpting, you can do vibrato, and coolest of all, you can do chords on it.  I've had up to four tones sounding at once.
