It only updates when you reload the page. But that's how it was before too. I just copied the old code which I found commented out.

The clock now updates in real time via JavaScript. It just shows your system time, so if your system clock is set wrong then the time displayed in the Songcrafters header will be wrong too. Before, it would show the time from the server in Provo, Utah, adjusted for your local time zone according to the setting in your profile. But that time could only be displayed once when the page loaded. There was no way to continually update it. By using your computer's system time instead, the display can be continually updated and there's no need to adjust it for your time zone since your computer's system time should already be in your local time zone.

Does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody really care about time?

I like the clock. Not sure I like my computer being the source of time accuracy, but I'll live with it. Do the posted dates on the forums have anything to do with the clock or are they entirely separate, as I'm assuming?

Entirely separate. Post dates still work like the old clock did; they get the time from the server in Utah, then adjust it according to the Time Offset in your profile.

Some members may not be aware of the Time Offset setting. The server for Songcrafters is located in Provo, Utah where the time zone is Mountain Standard Time. If you leave the Time Offset in your profile at zero, then all post times will be in Mountain Standard Time which is probably not what you want. So you need to put a number in the Time Offset field of your profile that is the difference in hours between your time zone and MST. For example, Eastern Standard Time is 2 hours ahead. If that's the time zone you live in, then you'd put a 2 in the Time Offset field so that all post times show in EST instead of MST. Folks in the U.K. would be in the GMT time zone which is 7 hours ahead of MST, so they'd put a 7 in their Time Offset field. Folks on the west coast of North America would be on Pacific Standard Time which is 1 hour behind MST, so they'd put -1 in their Time Offset field (note the minus sign). Australians are from the future, so folks in Sydney, for example, would put 18 in their Time Offset. And so on.

There are lots of sites on the web with time zone data. Here's one:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=2128

And here's a link to the page of your profile that contains the Time Offset field:

https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?action=profile;sa=theme

There's also an "auto detect" link there which should work in most cases, saving you the trouble of figuring out how many hours difference there is between your time zone and MST. Just click the "auto detect" link. It will put a number in the Time Offset field. If you think it's the right number, then click the "Change profile" button at the bottom of the page to accept the change.

Don't forget that most countries observe daylight saving time, so you'll have to change your Time Offset twice a year to reflect this. If you suddenly notice that post times are out by one hour, that's probably why.
