José Cid is a Portuguese controversial singer/ songwriter. He did 3 amazing prog rock albuns in the 70's. Obviously they were a commercial disaster, and in the 80's, he.... he.... well.... er.... he made songs for... er....hmm.... Eurovision...

The good news is that amidst those dark ages, he did release a couple of good songs. IMHO "Snow falling in New York" is one of those. It tells the story of someone that is at a crossroad, changing his life in New York, but as he sees the snow falling, he suddenly realizes he misses his life back in Lisbon.

The ambiance of this version relates more to spaceships and stuff than actually what the lyrics say: drums with reverb and slightly flanged, weird microkorg synth, ocasional wah-wah, jumpy bass, and a voice so distorted that not even native speakers understand the lyrics. A VST hammond in the end of the song, and IMAO la creme de la creme in the last chorus, after all, when the going gets fluffy, DaSilvaSings gets fluffier: mellotron strings for the Grand Finale! A celebration of the coolest instrument ever, and my sincere hommage to José Cid's prog-rocker past.

Thanks for the bump, but Daniel - you are wasting your time ;-)

This song was one of the first I recorded, and I admit I did a long way in terms of production/ mastering/ etc. But on the other hand, I think I lost most of my experimental pure nonsense, mixing synths with the casio vl-tone and the cavaquinho (a regional instrument similar with the ukulele but with steel strings) and all weird things I would come across. This song is one of my weirdest, and I think is mostly due to the drums with an insane amount of reverb.

Swansong, thanks for the criticism, I really appreciate it, and you are entirely correct. I remember that in my earlier songs I was very embarrassed with my voice and I wanted to hide it. I remember for this song particularly, trying to record it with the microkorg vocoder. I didn't manage to do it, and in the end, it is only my voice with a number of effects above, that really makes the vocal line a complete mess.

I know I should correct the song, but I am an amateur and I must assume that. I cannot allow me to be a perfectionist, otherwise, I had to review ALL my songs, because I know in the end they all have lots of faults, from wrong notes, to the worse possible mastering (too much bass, most of the times. I listened to my songs on the car stereo and the bass was completely distorted).

But again, thanks for the bump and I am happy people liked this song. Merit also to Jose Cid, the author, completely bonkers:
