New MicroBR... which memory card??

Started by malcolm, October 06, 2009, 04:29:38 AM

Hi,  I got a MicroBR for my birthday last week (after dropping not so subtle hints!) and have been delighted with it.  Found it really easy to create and bounce tracks - although this is my first digital recorder after recording in the early nineties using a yamaha four track.

I have a couple of 'newbie' questions that hopefully someone can help with?  Firstly I tried putting in a 2GB SD card from Kingston in the machine but get 'card write error' when I initialise it - presumably because it is not one of the recommended cards?  I have been looking out for the recommended cards but I can't find them anywhere - all the SD cards I come across now are much bigger in size - 2,4 or 8GB?  Can anyone recommend a card that I can easily get a hold of?  Also, is there any way to view how much space is left on the card from the microBR?

Welcome Malcolm!!!!!

It only goes up to 1GB without problems....

The should be a yellow bit of paper that came with your Br...

It has the recomended brands on it..... And where to get them.....

I stick with the card that came with the machine....

But have you tried initializing the 2gb card?

I bought one that didn't work at all......

I have been using a 2GB sd card for a couple weeks now, since
I just got my BR, and there were no 1GB cards anywhere to be found!
It has been working well, with the exception of a Drive Busy!! error
which seems to randomly pop up from time to time.
I am hoping that the installation of a 1GB card (when I find one), will
eliminate this annoying error!

What version is your mbr LG ? If you've not got 1.04, maybe that will solve the problem.

Has anyone tried 2GB cards on version 1.04?

Oh well ........

Hi - my mate has recommended the SanDisk III extreme - 1GB card so ordered one of them.

On my other question - is there an easy way to see how much memory you have left??

See "Viewing song information" on page 52 of the Micro BR manual. It shows you an estimate of the recording time available. To see the available card space in megabytes rather than minutes, try BR Explorer.

Welcome Malcolm!  Stock up on 1 gig cards while they are still cheap!

Also in the utility meny set up the mbr to show remaining time when recording.
press: (utility)- > - > - > - > and + to turn it on.

I find it useful when the card is getting full so I can be sure to have enough space left to record what I'm doing. Be aware that you have to put in a good amount extra time to be on the safe side
