The name came and when I made association with the serial killer fest, the words came all in a rush. It was in the early hours of Tuesday morning this week. I was trying to write them on my phone without waking my wife.

It's about a fictional rogue serial killer, known as Billy Stylish, who haunts fashionable London in the sixties.

It does owe something to Benny Hill's Ernie, stylistically.

Two guitar tracks (Squier Super Sonic through the tiny practice amp), GarageBand bass and drums. One vocal. Simples.

I so love my blue Super Sonic that I bought another one in pink. On the internet it's a guitar that's notorious for tuning instability - mine has really settled down and is keeps tuning as well as any of my guitars.

Uh-Oh Billy Stylish

They call him Billy Stylish
He's always dressed to kill
Jagger lips and feathered hair
A hit with all the girls
But Billy has a darker side
He's not what he appears
A spectre from your nightmares
The darkest of your fears

Uh-oh Billy Stylish
You flatter to deceive
Uh-oh Billy Stylish
You're more than they perceive

The girls all flock to Billy
Beguiled by his charm
They'd stab each other in the back
To walk off in his arm
He flirts and works his magic
And they gaze into his eyes
But when they are alone with him
They'll get a big surprise

(When did you last see Cathy?
Oh, I can't remember when
She left that night with Billy
And was never seen again)

Soon everyone was talkin'
'Bout the girls who'd disappeared
The scandal and the outrage
The very worst was feared
Billy had his theories too
But smiled on the inside
Indulging in the subterfuge
He know how they had died.

Uh-oh Billy Stylish
A rotter and a cad
Uh-oh Billy Stylish
The baddest of the bad

But Billy he got cocky
No, He never could be caught
He gets away with anything
He wants, or so he thought
Some people they were on to him
Left sloppy little clues
The jigsaw pieces left had led
Them back to you know who.

Uh-oh Billy Stylish
Not as clever as you think
Uh-oh Billy Stylish
Be careful or you'll sink

A copper from the force
Took an interest in the case
He followed up the clues
And soon he had a face
A honey trap was set
Carefully the cards were dealt
The chord was cut:
The trap snapped shut
Billy had his collar felt.

Uh-oh Billy Stylish
Could be your race is run
Uh-oh Billy Stylish
Your judgement day has come

The press they had a field day
He was everything they wished
Charming rogue serial killer
The front pages splash ed
The public they were outraged
'E should 'ang what 'e done
The ladies though weren't quite as sure
Bit of their heart still won

Uh-oh Billy Stylish
It's not looking too good
Uh-oh Billy Stylish
They could string you up they would

Billy had his day in court
A drawn out day it was - all the
Grim ghoulish details
The victims families sobbed
The judge he didn't hold back
He laid it thick on Bill
The fullest extent of the law
Locked away until...

Uh-oh Billy Stylish
You've met your grizzly end
Uh-oh Billy Stylish
Until we meet again...

Probably the most upbeat, bouncy song about a serial killer I've heard all week! ;) It just moves along musically with so much energy and a tremendous sense of fun. I also really like the lyrics and story, told with a cheeky grin and impeccably charming delivery. It's happy (subject matter notwithstanding) and silly and, fundamentally, just an absolute blast.

Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

Those things we take for granted - when we're young and immature - will surely return to haunt us when we're old and insecure

Reggae and serial killer lyrics. I do love bizarre. Clever title too, well, it made me chuckle.

A complete story: beginning, rise, fall, resolution – justice.

I love the peppy groove walking the line between ska and punk mischief – like a call back to the 2-Tone movement. You were clearly immersed in that stuff. But where the 2 Tone movement spotlighted injustice, this time villain does get caught, giving the genre a rare dose of justice.

Digression: Billy's charisma had me thinking of another song... one where smitten would-be victims showed up in court to defend the charming perp, even as he was on trial. What was that song again? Oh yes: "The Illinois Enema Bandit" by Frank Zappa

"Well did you cause this misery? / Well, one girl shout, "Let the Bandit be!" "Tell me now, what's your plea? / Another girl shout, 'Let the fiend go free!'"
