Sometimes I just like to knock out an old-fashioned rock song...

We're armed to the teeth but there's no-one to fight
We've numbered our days but we live for the night
Smile with our mouths yet steal with our eyes
We know many truths yet peddle more lies.

But don't pick up your pencil yet
Don't bare those teeth and claws
Don't pick up your pencil yet
The future is never yours.

We laugh out loud but nothing is funny
Beg, steal and borrow your love and your money
We dance with abandon but we're still in chains
We discard the losses but exaggerate the claims.

But don't reach for your handkerchief yet
Don't let those tears pour
Don't reach for your handkerchief
The future is never yours.

The die is cast a tall poppy needs trimming
All the spin doctors are out there spinning
High is the sky above the crown of the King
Dry the widow's eye when she pawns her wedding ring.

But don't pick up your guitar yet
Don't play those sombre chords
Don't pick up your guitar yet
The future is never yours.

MAN! Sounds wicked right from the start with that heavy guitar. Then it takes an unexpected turn into acoustic territory and then picks right back up again, a great choice! Those licks are wicked and the heavy hitting drum fills hit the spot.

Nice electric piano section as well. It just keeps going and going and going! :o  Awesome stuff Ray, very original and complex songwriting.

Nice drum intro, and cool tone on the lead guitar. I do like it when you turn your attention to rock, you are so good at it ;-). Great guitar on this and great lyrics. The soft section with the kb is a cool contrast.

I love that start. Like a heavy metal rock track. The guitars are brilliant. Nice contrast in the quite and loud tones.
The drums are great.
Brilliant lyrics and vocals as always too.
Yeah you can't beat a good rock song to rock out too sometimes.

Thanks, Ron. I do like to rock out occasionally but it's not really my forte. I can do the guitar stuff ok I guess but my vocal is not really strong enough to belt out a good rock song.

I like the heavy intro with the cool guitar tone and playing! The dynamic pull back with the acoustic section and vocal gives us time to relax and then back with the cool guitar...that was a good production choice Ray. Great vocals and harmonies...loved that short acapella section. Excellent vocals and lyrics! Good rockers never die they just get older, lol.

Splendid. Very tasty piece of rock. Loads of power growling away under the surface on this one.

Really really good stuff. And yeah I have to agree it is very liberating to just rock the f**k out.

Lovely job

Oh yeah...

Love the title... amazing playing, and those vocals are really cool... I love the "sneer" in your voice - whether it's meant to be there or not(!) - it really suits the message in this.
