I just really dig this mix!  Zoltan told me long ago you only need 2 mics to record drums.  I didn't listen to him then.  Today I did that.  although it was not because he told me to.  It was because my ears told me that.  normally I just bring in all 5 or 6 drum tracks at once and pan and effect them per past experiences that I liked... but this time I did different.  I brought in the vocals 1st.  and copied the one track and added some eq and different effects.
then I brought in the bass

and copied that ... the bass was DI.. but I copied it.  Took everything above 250 hz and ran it through some waves gtr stomp box 4 mono pedals and panned it right 70.  The other bass was set below 250 with no effects...

I just kept listening to this... and then the vocals started to come in... yeah man.. let it flow.
I recorded the guitar with a metronome... then added drums... then bass... then vocals... everything except guitar is 1st take.

I'm a disgrace, to the human race.
A piece of shit, nothing but scum.
It's hard to rise in this sea of rage inside
find a way to fly and overcome.
You are right to say.
I am not privy to your lofty state.
Here is a word for you pal.
You don't own me man.
You can't clone me man.
There is no algorithm for
what I got hidden down inside.

You think you're untouchable?
In your ivory towers?  With your golden showers.
There is a billion like me who arise.  We will quench your genocide.

Quench
let me do my thing.
Country bumpkin on a swing.
I gotta girl who will kiss and we
got wedding riongs
she loves me and I love her
stay off our porch swing.
Don't tell me about ancestral sin' cuz
I ain't listening
I will be neighborly to you unless
you are a son of a bitch to me

and stop flashing your gold.
It's nothing more than pavement to me

Loving the drama in this..

That driving Bass and vocal.

Can feel every note and vibration.

I like this a lot, cool vocals and i like the panned guitars, i listen on surround sound and it sounds good on my system like the punky spoken word mix and rock of the track and the fuzzy groove , nice work enjoyed

The way you effected the bass tracks is way cool! The distorted, fuzzed out higher bass frequencies is chasing the main bass track like an angry dog tugging on the mailman's pant leg. Some fine vocals and guitar Stephan. The two mic drums set up works well...one in front of the kick and one above the snare? Do tell, please.

exactly right Farrell, it is the kick drum and the snare drum... I thought it caught just enough of the other stuff to still have the energy and in some ways I like it more than the usual setup... especially for something like this...   i loved the way you phrased that bass effect.... really clever!  also real spot on... I think I found the mix more interesting than the song itself...

thanks for listening and comments friends!

I'm fascinated by this song. The whole enchilada. I first heard this early in the morning and had it on repeat while walking the dogs.

The lyrics go hard. The overall sound is such that you should really get to play on KEPX. The indie to indie.

Rocks harder than most.

Interesting and experimental with cool instrumentation. The recording techniques you get into are fascinating, Stephen compared to my efforts which are as simple as I can get away with LOL

It's like off off Broadway...something Jim Steinman would write.

Love the urgency here...especially while mentioning golden showers.

Well done.

Hell yeah! Great rocker here Stephen, it has a punky energy. Great basslines here too!
