Hard to express how meaningful the Allman Brothers have been in my life, and we have unfortunately lost another founding member. Duane tends to get the accolades from the early years, but Dickey was an incredible player during his peak years. His love of Western swing helped inform a unique style, and I still consider some of his tones to be benchmarks.

So true unfortunately, all the greats are disappearing and there are not many artists left that are showing signs of making the same impact.

Sad, sad, sad news...the guy was such a talent. He always amazed me with his tone and melodic picking speed. R.I.P. Dickey Betts.

Just a heads up that Andy Aledort (Guitar World writer and alum of Dickey's band for over a decade) is on Greg Koch's latest Chewing the Gristle podcast. It is dense with Dickey stories.
