since he bought a lap steel guitar (an instrument of torture for guitarists...), my son-in-law Guillaume has left me his 8-string Gold Tone lap steel guitar as a guesthouse.

A reminder for the uninitiated (source wikipedia)

The term lap steel guitar refers either to a form of electric guitar derived from its two acoustic cousins, the steel guitar or Dobro (a term derived from the brand name of the Dopyera brothers, considered to be the inventors of this type of instrument, It would be more appropriate to say resonator or resophonic), an acoustic guitar with a body made entirely, or in part, of steel, and equipped with resonators, and the Hawaiian guitar, which is, more simply, a particular way of playing the steel guitar or the traditional electric guitar, laid flat on the knees rather than played parallel to the body, like a traditional guitar.

The instrument itself, known as the lap steel guitar, shares many characteristics with its version mounted on a stand and equipped with pedals to control the pitch of the notes, the pedal steel guitar, both in its general form and in the way it is played.

To get back to the 8-string Lap steel Gold Tone, I tuned it to C6 (G-A-C-E-G-A-C-E.) which is a popular tuning for swing, jazz and country music.

A little note on the song surfing girl

Surfer Girl is the title of a song by The Beach Boys composed by Brian Wilson in 1963. It's a sung version harmonised in 4 voices if anyone wants to try it here's an excellent tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYnaLyeujDU
I could see Pipe , or Hook or Oldrottenhead singing it

About surfin girl, a guy said on YT "The more Beach Boys songs I play, the more I think Brian Wilson's brain was tuned to steel guitar harmonies." it's true
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Nice job, steel sounds great, and great playing.  This is different to, but clearly related to techniques for playing "slide guitar", but I have never tried anything like that.  A lot of country rock I like has lap steel or pedal steel in it.  I liked Rusty Young who played on "Kind Woman" by Richey Furay in Buffalo Springfield, and Rusty became the leader of POCO, and often used lap steel/pedal steel, but sadly I read that he passed away recently.

Funny thing is after I read your post in the morning, I was looking at MSN.com (microsoft network home/news page) and an ad popped for a vintage lap steel (see below) - I have never had such an ad pop up before, just guitar ads - Microsoft must have been monitoring which websites I visit and saw I was reading about your lap steel.
