Henri Salvador, born on 18 July 1917 in Cayenne (French Guiana) and died on 13 February 2008  was a French author, composer, performer, humorist and musician. A guitarist, he began playing in French jazz orchestras. His long career (which began in the 1930s) took on a new dimension when, in 1948, he embarked on a singing career.

His hits include Syracuse, Maladie d'amour, Le Loup, la Biche et le Chevalier (Une chanson douce), Dans mon île, Le travail c'est la santé, Zorro est arrivé, and Jardin d'hiver.

He and Sacha Distel are the only two French variété artists to feature in the Dictionnaire du Jazz3. In fact, everyone knew the composer Ray Ventura well, Sacha Distel being his nephew and Henri Salvador, in his early days, a singer in his orchestra.

J'ai déjà repris sur SC Syracuse,le blues du dentiste, jardin d'hiver

in the latter part of his life, after decades of singing 'funny', rather 'food' songs, he returned to his first love: the crooner song.

voici les paroles traduites
I've dreamt so much
I've dreamt so much of being able to fly far beyond the sun,
To always be like an amazed child,
Oh yeah, I've dreamt so much...

I've tried so many times to reach the root of happiness,
To understand why, all of a sudden, my heart was beating,
Oh yeah, I've tried so many times...

I've wanted so bad to know the how and the why,
I've wanted to find back my childhood dreams,
[But] I never understood
Why do we have to go so far to see our life?

I've known so much mornings without rime nor reason,
All those tomorrows that don't even dare to pronounced their names.
Why does love always pass at the bottom of our hearts?

I've known so much mornings without rime nor reason,
All those tomorrows that don't even dare to pronounced their names.
I've ached to see, I've wanted to believe,
I've dreamt so much.

Yes that was lovely, I often learn a bit about French music history apart from enjoying your songs and that is equally cool. Shamefully I don't know much about French music, but you are a good advert for it JP! :)
