This was a rare occassion, I had the song written before i recorded it. I had some soft synths playing on my iphone whilst I strummed on my acoustic.  Shortly after i had the song written, i then had a few beersand  imported soft synths from my iphone to my macbook, Had some more beer, probs too many and then did this.

It is what it is,
Does optimism change
Or even rearrange
The colours that we see
Adrift upon the sea
The meaning in a song
Was lost along the way
We just go with the flow
There is no other way
No other way to do
No other way to breathe
No other way to sing
Sing the song
Like you mean it
Sing the song
Like you know it
Sing the song
Cos you need to
Sing the song........

And even if you care
And even if you don't
There isn't any choice
You just do
There's something deep inside
That just needs to get out
You have to let it flow
There is no other way
No other way to do
No other way to breathe
No other way to sing
Sing the song
Like you mean it
Sing the song
Like you know it
Sing the song
Cos you need to
Sing the song..........

I'm going to have my wife record me snoring. Then I'll post the recording here, and write, "I had a few beers and this is what I came up with." Because, unlike you ORH, that would be the best I could do under the circumstances.

The detail that grabbed me right away was the drum pattern at the beginning: the snare on two but not on four - nothing at all after the third beat. Not exactly mind-blowing drum programming, but a subtle touch that would have been easier to leave out than to add in.

So this was all assembled and finished in GarageBand?

This sounds gorgeous - the synths and guitar are very shimmery, and your vocals are clear as a bell.

It's a winner!

the main soft synth that holds it all together was recorded in GarageBand on my iPhone. The synths I used can't be used on my MacBook so I saved as a song and imported to my MacBook. Then using GarageBand in my MacBook I added a drum track. As I said I had the song written. So I then recorded the guitar parts. I didn't have a bass guitar part written so jammed along to the track on the bass and that added a whole new feel to the song. I then added more soft synths using my Akai usb keys. Vocals were then recorded using my rode nt1a mic. Lyrics were intentionally nonsense but then took another journey. Once everything was done I mixed using my new mackie monitors. Not sure if I'm done with this one tho.

Really, really enjoyed this. The guitar against those pads caught me right out. They create a great bed for you to melodically play with your (too good) vocals.

Just love your voice.

When this turns to the end, I noticed how catchy track this is - even on the first listening. The simple bass line is captivating!

Brilliant. Well worth the few pints I'd say. For me the lyrics have great meaning and hit me really hard. Just that insistent gentle vibe is so good. Sing the song... awesome.
