I think it's a John Denver song,...in any case I knew it from Seldom Scene in 1974, with Mike Aulbridge on dobro

It was the first time I heard in France this wonderful resonator guitar which was played flat with a tone bar ! There was not yet any in France and I had made a guitar with a tin pot lid as a resonator ! No need to tell you that the sound was very approximate
Many years later the first dobro were available in France and I was able to buy a real Epiphroone dobro

Bon , là j'ai tout fait

Ted

John Denver died in a plane crash two months after this song was released on his final studio album. I was born in Denver, and was 10 years old when "Rocky Mountain High" began playing on the radio every 10 minutes. My father identified with the song, having moved to Colorado as a young man, and fell in love with the mountains – just like the character in the song.

Denver is (at least in my mind) is the same cultural category as Glen Campbell: Both are great players, but they became TV celebrities on endless variety shows and game shows in the 1970s, and the TV-watching population barely knew of them as accomplished musicians. The real John Denver was a lot more interesting than the cleaned-up, grinning, mayonnaise-salesman version of himself he played on TV. But I didn't know that at the time.

I wonder if you folks from outside the USA have the same perception. You weren't fed the same stupid celebrity roundups that I was.

About your recording, JP: It's beautiful. It almost sounds like an analog recording – on vinyl (slightly warped). I love the way the chords and vocals glissando from one to the next. The uke bass sounds like an upright.

fantastic job here again JP... like Ted said JD was an iconic American singer and songwriter.  Yeah, they controlled the spin pretty tight on artists back in those days...

Not at all! To tell you the truth I didn't know John Denver at all until recently when I heard a cover of "country road" by...frett killer on you tube

I think I understood that Old train is a song that was first sung by The Seldom Scene (I love this bluegrass band since the 70's when the bluegrass revival was a big hit in France

While reading today on Wiki the biography of John Denver, I learned (is it true?) that he has a big "humanitarian" activity which makes at least one point in common with me ;)

yes it's true, you are very perceptive Ted! in truth I have some Waves plug ins which allow to simulate the sound of the years 60-70 such as Abbey road J 37
