One minute hot then freezing cold
Mercurial moods in the bar tonight
The band laying down some rock n roll
Boys in the corner waiting for a fight
Drunken yells everyone a star
Steely stares cold as frost
Crowd of hens pecking at the bar
Bride to be already lost

Melanie's bar on high street west
Drink all your troubles right off your chest
Nobody here could care or less
Just mingle with the rest
In Melanie's bar

Over there the truck driver four feet wide
The perfect picture of total ignorance
His truck double-parked there right outside
Full of grapefruits and illegal immigrants
Salesman Sam sinks another sarsaparilla
One eye on the young bride to be
Bouncer guy looks like a hairless gorilla
Thinking about how tough he's tried to be

Melanie's bar on high street west
Drink all your troubles right off your chest
Nobody here could care or less
Just mingle with the rest
In Melanie's bar

Why I'm here I don't care to mention
Just sitting quietly drinking alone
Trying not to attract any attention
One eye on my beer; one on my phone.

I'm in Melanie's bar on high street west
Drinking my troubles off my chest
Nobody here could care or less
I've mingled with the best
In Melanie's bar

..for a little, we could believe it in this bar of Melanie!
Ray is it you who makes the harmonica? and if yes which harmonica do you use?...I have difficulty to find an instrument to make easily the effects and alterations...
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I'm not sure if this is the song i should be hearing in the morning. It's not that early, but hearing this makes me think of changing my coffee to something stronger.

The harmonica playing, the catchy rhythms and the overall warmth this track just oozes makes this such a delight! Great balance of lyrical content and music. One could as easily enjoy this just for the music, and later get lost into it because of the storyline.

I am cracking up reading the lyrics.  Truck driver 4 feet wide... ha!

I think the lyrics are a blast.  I ended up married to Melanie for 20 years.  damn...

anyway.  the harmonica is great.  The piano and music reminds me a good bit of Skynard or some other southern rock bands minus the crazy electric guitars.
crazy good song.

Good combination of serious and witty on this bluesy folk number , has a dark under current to it but its fun which i like a lot, nice work ray understated and cool with the harp and percussion, enjoyed it a lot.

My toe is tapping on the floor! This is so good.

Excellent job on many ways, you're a really professional singer-songwriter!
