I bought a Zoom R20 multitrack recorder. See this post.

I recorded the guitar tracks for this song on the Zoom. All of the synth tracks were recorded in Bitwig.

I've been keeping notes about the Zoom's features and quirks. I'll post them in a detailed review at some point. But first I want to explore it a bit more so I don't miss anything.

This song has it all - too much, and yet somehow remains not overcrowded. Love those soaring 64G leads on top of Hook's solid foundation, top-notch lyrics, and vocals.

Well done, gents!

A great line.

Downloaded to listen to later in headphones. Sounded huge on laptop speakers.

Wow! Sounds like you guys had fun with this, managed to really load it up with a busy palette of sounds and still keep it clean. The synths and guitar parts sound like they belong in the same world. Nice job arranging, playing and mixing!

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

As promised, I came back for another listen in headphones.

Quote from: Hook on August 24, 2022, 08:49:34 AMI said to 64 when he agreed to play on this, "let's do too much" and we certainly did...and I love it!

Reminds me of what Elvis Costello said to Steve Nieve for the orchestration on the song "And In Every Home." I'm sure you know it.

Quote from: Chris Ingalls[Costello's] instructions to Nieve were "give full vent to your imagination". He added that this simple direction "gave (the song) this deranged setting". The song almost sounds like what a young music college student would do if you gave him a major label budget, an orchestra, and a former Beatles producer's studio, which is exactly what happened.

(It took me a little while to find that quote, so I hope you appreciate it.)

Like the Costello song, the mega-production is ironic against the lyrics – an anthem of regret, self-doubt, and second guessing. Sentiments with which I am too familiar.

Sounds so good in headphones.
