very special song, performed very well by you Rene.  I love those songs and it is nice to hear someone do them so well...
your guitar sounds so good... and has a lot to do with you playing it...still even a great guitarist prefers a great guitar...

The guitar sounds beatiful, but that vocal sound really takes the cake!
You're such a great singer and performer.

I would like to ask what you're using to record these performances, but i would guess that the price of the gear (mic, pre's) are above me comfort level (i'm basing this on the brand of guitar(s)) your using ;)).

Then again you can't buy such a talent. And it's the talent that really speaks here :)

Hi Stephen,
Always a pleasure to hear from you.
And thanks for your wonderful comments.
Your words means a whole lot, especially to a guitar player, as simplistic as I am!!!
A million thanks!!!

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

Hi Zoltan,
Thanks for the wonderful comments, and also for asking about my gear.
I try to keep my set-up as simple as possible.

The only thing I consider expensive on my set-up is one of two mics I use.  This is Ear Trumpet Labs "Edwina" - $600.00.  I will suggest using another of the mic I am using which is Shure SM-58.

Here's my set-up:
2 Shure SM-58, one directed to guitar, the other directed to vocals.  Both mics are picking up both vocals and guitar. [200.00]
Mics into Yamaha MG10XU.  I use this mixer for the Room Reverb it has, #6 is my choice, approx 20%. [230.00]
From mixer to UAD USB Interface.  I like the built in compressor and vintage mic pre-amp. both set at 15%.  [300.00]
From UAD Interface into IMAC, recording via Quick Time Player Movie. [FREE]
TOTAL: $730.00
Note:
Actually, the Yamaha Mixer has compressor, mic preamp, and also a USB interface as well.
One can choose to eliminate the UAD USB Interface, lowering the cost to $430.00

Respectfully,
Rene

Thanks for the super detailed gear response Rene!

I agree with keeping it as simple as possible. Helps a lot when it comes to recording and getting things done. I've tried to streamline things a lot too. Mostly it's just a case of plugging in a cable (+one pedal) and off you go :)

Now that i have an electro acoustic (Little Martin) i have the option to use DI + microphone. The DI has the piezo sound so it's not the best solution, but blended with an impulse it becomes a lot more useable. Still it's far away from a properly recorded acoustic.

I'm not really an acoustic guitar player and a singer even less. So i'm mostly into electric guitars and the acoustic stuff needs a lot more refining. I thought you might be using a two mic setup and i think i'll try it at some point. I have SM58b and Rode NT1 (USB) so i could use the SM58b for the guitar and the NT1 for vocals.
The SM58 was the first mic i ever got as it's the most commonly recommended (at least was years ago), but i've rarely managed to record my vocals with that. My vocal sound is most often what i'd call as undefined lowish mumbling without support :D So that's not the easiest sound to record, or mix.
In those cases where i do manage to sing higher, or add more volume to the singing things are a lot easier, but often i have to work with this mumble :) The NT1 seems to handle this a lot better.

One thing that also popped my mind while reading your response was the use of compressor. I've been thinking if an outboard compressor of somekind (i use Behringer UMC4040HD soundcard so it doesn't have one) would help  especially with vocals. I'm always using a compressor plugin while tracking.

Hi Zoltan,
I am so happy to hear that you are having a path towards your recording situation.
I agree, using your NT1 and Shure are great, and adding a compressor would definitely help.
I found for acoustic guitar recording, recording without using the installed electronics, and recording via a microphone is best.  I play for our local church services, and lately I do not hook up my guitar electronically, but I play my guitar and amplifying it via a microphone as well.
Great conversation.
