After hearing of Mike Nesmith's passing, I decided I'd have to cover a Monkees song.
It's been a while in the making, but the end result, with the help of a couple of friends, is this.
Hopefully you'll agree, it turned out OK.  :)

Recorded using Presonus Studio One & iPad Garageband.

I first heard this song covered by the Sex Pistols on the Great Rock'n'roll Swindle record, and I think I heard a bit of that version here, if in attitude alone.

But I also love the Monkees and the original. I was smiling throughout, listening to your version, especially at the double time sections.

Thanks for cheering up my Thursday morning.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs. We do a version of it with my (occasional) band, The Nutrients. I wish we sounded this good.

This song has influenced my songwriting more than I should admit. When I'm messing around with chords on a new song, I often look for a way to sneak in a Stepping Stone Easter Egg that nobody will ever notice. If I write a song in E, my songwriting instincts automatically start looking for excuses to add a G and a C.

I've been fooling around with a Kabosy version of this song too. It may show up here someday.

yeah it's a goodun.  Totally own it... I like that.
feels like you were throttling the neck of the guitar and throwing it around like a rag doll...
very punkish but to me that is rock and roll so...it's really good.

I vaguely remember this song..the Monkeys in 66 were not really my favourite band

I remember the melodic line of the sung intro

AAAA ( I'm not your stepping stone)

but anyway good rendition
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

So damn cool! I love the heavier make over of this track, kickass vocals and really tight instrumental. The mixing is perfect too.... love it

Thanks, yes you more than likely did. I definitely tried to give it attitude & that would more than likely result in a fair dollop of punk!  ;D

You spotted the punk influences too, cheers.  ;D

That's how I play every guitar line. It's how I disguise my lack of skill.  ;D

Thanks to all those that listened & commented.  :)
