well, this is a very short song but has a comedic side to it...the intro is very prog...kind of Rush like I would think...just instrumental...
I have to say I worked very hard for a long time on this...because getting the drums adequate was next to impossible...I generally use a metronome to keep me locked in during the initial recording of the first instruments...but the tempo is so over the place I could not really find a suitable pulse without it messing up what I was trying to do on the guitar...so I didn't use any pulse...then I added bass which I did probably work on for an hour but the drums took me about 3 hours to get something I liked...
so I had that first minute...then I started into something sort of in the same vein but used a metronome at 150 I think... and when I started writing lyrics I came up with this funny thing about the challenges of romance and sex in our 60s...don't think the wife thinks its funny though...

recorded on Zoom... mixed on Bandlab...mastered on Landr...used the Harley Benton PRS copy on single coil for intro and dual coil for the rest...Shecter Bass and Alesis Nitro drums.. vocals were the zoom mics
What are we watching on the tube tonight?  Something funny, a mystery, or fright?  How about a romance, that way it'll mean you'll love me alright.  Will you love me again tonight?  If my face scares you we'll turn out the lights.  I'll take my pill and you use your gel, that way it'll all go swell.
I'll sing for you and you'll dance for me.  Take off that nighty please.
Better living through modern chemistry.  Better living through modern chemistry.  It'll all go swell when it all goes swell!

DarrenG / The Devil's Toupee

An excellent rock intro, love the guitar melody and those drums, I can tell it took you a while producing this. I like the way the music changes when the lyrics come in and then it fades back in again at the end.
Good theme for the lyrics haha! Yeah I bet the wife wasn't too happy with this " romantic " song :)
I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)

That is a very impression intro, Stephen with a cool Rush feel. Then the song mutates into a kind of Zappa track with those comical lyrics. Aaah - life and romance in the 60's - pills and gels indeed. Great stuff my friend.

I got the 2112 era Rush vibe for sure... well, in the instrumental at least :D. I love the swinging drums and metallic sound to the bass, you definitely got a Geddy vibe there. The middle section reminds me of Zappa, humourous with a zany juxtaposition with the lyrics and music. Great fun.

guitarron

That's a really epic sounding groove. Tough on the drums. Rush and Yes inspired.

Yeah, I get the Rush/Zappa reference too, but it's all you.

trying to tap the tempo in 6/8 and it works for most of it, but I'm not a drummer ;)

Oh well ........

Ha, love the lyrics, I can see how that would cause a little marital stress. The work on the drums was well worth the time and effort. Excellent post.
