edit.. When I  first hastily posted this last winter, I was having PC trouble.
I came back to this a couple weeks ago to fix some things
This is my latest rendition.

I fixed the bass issues and mastered it with T-Racks.

I've been struggling with this song for a month now. I'm over producing it i think. Anyway, i wanted to clear my slate for something else, so I'm leaving the warts on this one for now.
I used to play this song live around 1986. Just getting around to recording it other than live cassette tapes

The Bottom

1    Well I'm broken and tired and here all alone

Got a place to live, but I don't feel at home.

Misery loves your company.

Can't stop the obsession

And the bottom has come for me.

Chorus

Please, take them.  My old ways.

It's fine by me. It's fine by me.

2 You've erroded the spirit. And taken control

Broken up families and injured their souls.

You easily hide. Behind happy faces.

Succumb to the urge    A  mask is replacing you
Chorus

3
The disease is patient. I think you will find

It manifests inward. It starts in your mind.

Not a care in the world. So selfishly

Robs you of spirit, of health, of dignity
Chorus.

This is just brilliant, it don't sound over produced to me at all Sounds just fine. God those guitar riffs are really cool. This must have been great playing it live. Obviously with a band? Now I guess you're playing all instruments on this version..it's really good. Love your vocals, and love the other little touches, like the piano and strings, organ parts.
Glad you re recorded it.

Incredible song Ron...holy heck man what a track...if I had any feedback it would be (following from what Steve said) the rhythm section could use some boosting, bass and drums...I think it would really lift this up even further.....other than that, stellar, unique, spooky and awesome track

Hope you post the lyrics!!!  Man this sounds so damn good Ron...  at one little section it reminds me of Zappa.  That panned whammy sounding guitar at 3:18 totally kicks.  I also love the dropped down low vocals with just the piano...
to at least a small degree this reminds me of Styx at the time of Paradise Theatre (which was their biggest selling lp)... as in the sounds of the guitars on here and the really clean production...what it seems like is emphasis on specific instruments at specific times...that is cool....
you have put alot of work into this Ron and it shows...mixing is always tricky as to what will be emphasized...This is great as is....sometimes i like to mix various ways and then include them in the post...my last comment would be I only could hope to ever make a song sound this friggin good!
way to go Ron!

This project is a beast to mix because I layered a lot of guitar.(too much) It's an eq nightmare. I had to stop working on it because I was getting antsy to move on. I try to make stuff in a week or two. Trying to make up for lost time I guess.
Adding  to the frustration, my computer crashed twice while making this and at one point had to be completely restored from a back up I made(luckily)

The very lowest notes on a five string bass are hard to hear on some playback devices. I do plan to revisit this song in the future for some more edits, but I just need a break from it

Sometimes what is in your head or played live does not translate to a recording never the same but not knowing the live version with crowd energy this has turned out to be a fine recording I like it well done
I used to play hey there Delia by the white t's live but have never been happy with the recordings

This is brilliant Ron

You can see how this would have been brilliant to play live, but this studio version is bloody fine too. I was thinking this would have slotted into a set by The Outlaws really well. Your voice has a lot of soul Ron, and the guitar is really tasteful. But no.1 here is the song. Superb.
