Best way to recording guitar

Hello -newbie here. Great site btw, I've learned a ton just by browsing previous threads

I have a probably very basic question. Since I like the sounds, and have know my amp fairly well (Line6 Flextone 3) is the best thing when recording to Micro BR , to run it from the headphone on the amp to the line in on the BR?  . . . . or is it better from a recording perspective just to connect directly to the Guitar input, and use the inbuilt effects? I'd be interested in knowing what the considerations are (if any) around between the different approaches . . . or I guess the other option is to use the onboard Mic to record in front of the amp speaker?
Thanks

Does the flextone have a stereo line out-i'd use that-but the headphone jack should work too-remember to shut of the effects in the MBR off-unless you want the additional effects-could muddy things up
You'll have to mess with input sensitivity a bit-
Mic'ing the amp is always a suitable work around as well

I would say try both ways and figure out what is the best. Maybe you could even record in both perspectives simultanously. Split your guitar cable and then connect one side directly to the Guitar IN and  another two your amp. Position your Micro BR mic close to the amp. Then select INPUT and press the GIT and MIC buttons at the same time (track 1 and 2), the screen will turn GIT+MIC and now both sources will be recorded. Sources won't be independent though. I mean track 1 isn't going to be Guitar clean and track two isn't going to be amp but a mix of both. And effect will be applied to both sources. It is an experiment to try out though.

PS: Welcome!

Thanks for the suggestions, and not sure about stereo line out (will need to check my amp manual) although I think I might have line out to  to connect to outboard effects (I just dont have the right cable! will need to get one and try) . . .other than that the headphone to line in on MBR seems to work ok.

I guess its about trying to see what works best. Interesting suggestion about running them both together, didn't know you could do that, certainly would be fun to try

Thanks again

that's interesting admin,
split the guitar cable to go into Mbr and the flextone , then use Mbr's built in mic-hmmmm
too bad you couldn't pan one right, one left
