After playing a number of Farmer's Market gigs this summer, we decided to write a humorous song about the experience.  We have dubbed our Farmer's Market gigs as our "fruit and fiber tour".  The title of the song is the answer to the question the wife often asks us following the gig: "what did you make today?"  Just a simple 1-4-5 progression musically, with the 3 of us joined by Mark D. Hastings on piano (who has his own fruit and fiber gigs.  :)

Whole Lot of Nothin'    Currier Square    c2021

Just getting off the road the Fruit and Fiber tour
Another farmer's market gig in case you weren't sure
Got paid in local veggies and some leftover cheese
Roasting in the sun at only 90 degrees
And all I brought home is a whole lot of nothin' for you

Lugged all our guitars sang every song we knew
Mostly our originals and a cover or two
Hoped to sell our CD's make a dollar or so
But folks just came for produce and away they would go
And all I brought home is a whole lot of nothin' for you

Never going to be recognized on the street
Never going to be on TV
Should you decide to stream one of our songs
We'll make half a cent, divided by three

We don't rely on music for paying the rent
If we did we'd end up, living in a tent
We just keep on rolling cuz performing is fun
But ache from head to toe just as soon as we're done
And all I brought home is a whole lot of nothin' for you

Never going to be recognized on the street
Never going to be on TV
Tip jar is empty no one's buying the merch
It's good to know that, we're playing for free

Just booked another gig the Fruit and Fiber tour
Not sure how many more of these I can endure
Fresh vegetables in season and the vendors are nice
But the audience avoids us like our head's full of lice
So all I brought home is a whole lot of nothin' for you

All I brought home is a whole lot of nothin' for you
All I brought home is a whole lot of nothin' for you
"Play because you love it. Don't worry about if it will ever make any money, just understand that playing is an end in itself, and you play music, it will make your life better. And, don't worry about being a star, don't worry about making money, worry about nothing, just sit down with your guitar and let it speak to you and that will make your life better. It will bring beauty into your life. It's a great thing to do."     ---- David Crosby

Nice boogy. Nice playing and harmonies. Musicians are the only people who spend 10 grand to make 50 bucks!

Great fun, some great lyrics, but good that you could see the lighter side of the gigs. If you end up making decent money from gigging you will be in the minority that's for sure. But you guys sound great here. Loved it.

Anyone who's ever gigged and relate to this one - although I've never been paid in vegatables and I have been recognised  ::)

Great fun!

I got a multipack of prawn cocktail crisps once, that was a bit random.

you can call me anything you like.  Just don't call me late for dinner

Great singer with some very truthful lyrics. It must be hard playing those "in one ear out the other" kinda gigs. Oh the joys of live performance.

Huge fun, really enjoyed this. Very nicely put together and some great playing going on, a real foot tapper. Got me moving.......must be all that fruit and fiber ;)

I'm sure a lot of us can relate to this. Mind you, the only vegetables I've seen at any of my gigs were in the audience.....
