Another one from me and Max. This started with guitar, drum and bass from Max (his new guitar). I added vocals, mellotron choir, Thumbjam pedal steel, and vinyl scratch / static fx.

Lyrically, this very heavily influenced by the work of the great Dario Argento (cult Italian horror director) who we recently discovered we have a shared passion for. The Italian pulp horror genre is collectively known as 'Giallo' (yellow). And Profondo Rosso (Deep Red) is one of Argento's films where, amongst other things, a ventriloquist doll goes on a bloody slashing spree.

Deep Red Vinyl

deep red vinyl like my ventricles
deep red vinyl like her lips
we ride in whispers on this horror bus
the mater lachrimarum trip
profondo rosso e giallo
through the outskirts we will slip
away

deep red vinyl like the bloodbath moon
deep red vinyl spinning round
we walk the corridors of institutions
the mater suspiriorum sound
profondo rosso e giallo
a curse is hanging on this town

what you gonna do when the shadows start stretching?
what you gonna do when the knives are out?
I wrote a story but the ending eludes me
all I saw were the ripples as the witches drowned

profondo rosso e giallo
these are the colours of my mind
profondo rosso e giallo
these are the colours of my life

what you gonna do when the shadows start stretching?
what you gonna do when the knives are out?
I wrote a story but the ending eludes me
all I saw were the ripples as the witches drowned

Put the needle in the deep red vinyl

I'm very happy that Tim had this idea ! Other than being another strange and cool song (and making me see the artsy side of Dario Argento), it brought me back sweet memories of my teenage summers (sweet doesnt mean girls to me - I hadnt none at the time, but a lot of horror films with my friends instead LoL).
Grazieeeeeee Tim!

Not into horror but let's face it...we all live it...
This is incred... first off the drum...so dang solid... that guitar in my right ear and keys in the left....I love it... and Tim's soothing voice here....I hear nothing sinister here...just almost like a beautiful babies lullaby... I needed that just now

A cool intro with the scratchy vinyl needle sound and the fuzzy vocal. It sets the stage nicely. Then it all smooths out into a very pleasant song with the poignant lyric. Well done again Maxit and Tim!

Loving this, another cool and very different collab from you guys. It's a very effective backer with some nice guitar melodies and great bass work, but Tim really took it in a different direction with his additions. And boy do they work! Love the effects at the start and the whole mood you create with those lyrics. Super inventive stuff, very different and absolutley loved it!

When people say Argento I immediately think Goblin as I used to have a bunch of the soundtracks on rotation, so it's nice to hear a different take on the subject, really great song and loving that guitar.

Love the feel here – and the subtle pedal-steel in the background, frankly, belongs in every single song.

Love the way Tim's lyrics matched the mood of Max's backer. ALWAYS impressed by his ability to fashion sold lyrics from just about subject matter he comes across... amazing.

The choir and the bass in the chorus works well with the vocals and the guitar panned left, a bit haunting.

OH and I Love the spacious arrangement and amazed at how Max noodled through out the whole song on that guitar panned left. I guess it's more daunting then haunting.

Again nice work guys.
