This guy is one of the best ever and died way too young....
he says he never in his life played a drum solo... he is all about holding time...this guy was special like Neil Peart but somewhat , quite a bit, different players.... and very few people know how many artists he played on their records...

"I do sessions for free if they don't have a record deal and are trying to get a record deal."  man alive...this guy was so humble and decent.  and he said he got a lot of paid work because of his willingness to work for less... and he worked all the time

He played on Steely Dan -Katy Lied album, Michael Jackson Thriller, Boz Skaggs albums,  including George Benson, Tommy Bolin, Larry Carlton, Eric Carmen, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Christopher Cross, Miles Davis, Dire Straits, Donald Fagen, Stan Getz, David Gilmour, James Newton Howard, Al Jarreau, Elton John, Leo Sayer, Greg Lake, Rickie Lee Jones, Paul McCartney, Michael McDonald, Bee Gees, Sérgio Mendes, Jim Messina, Pink Floyd, Lee Ritenour, Diana Ross, Boz Scaggs, Seals and Crofts, Bruce Springsteen, Steely Dan, Barbra Streisand, Richard Marx, Don Henley, David Foster, Donna Summer, Frankie Valli and Joe Walsh. Porcaro contributed drums to four tracks on Michael Jackson's Thriller and also played on the Dangerous album hit "Heal the World". He also played on 10cc's ...Meanwhile (1992). On the 1993 10cc Alive album, recorded after his death, the band dedicated "The Night That the Stars Didn't Show" to him.

at around 39 minutes he starts talking about recording direct to record...where they have to play the entire half of the album top to bottom and the only time between songs was the album distance between songs... and if you mess up...you start back over, top to bottom...can you imagine that?

I can't believe I watched the whole thing. Very down to earth. Reminds me of an old friend of mine who is a drummer, mostly self-taught, who is very disciplined about drumming and doing "the job" of the drummer. I feel like I know this guy.
