Retro 80's new wave. Part of a whole album of 80's synth and new wave I've been working on. Garageband drums and synths plus HB 12-string electric guitar and vocals. I've found the 12-string really works with the new wave sound I'm after, and adds some humanity to the cold synths.

The chorus lyric is partly a Carl Gustav Jung quote (with a lot of artistic licence and additions).

lost inside a film-noir dream
shop dummies and stopped watches
tour guides in a burning zoo
carrying their crosses

let's share lucidity
in a taxi in Berlin

we need to kindle a light
in the darkness of mere being
through the eyes of a stranger
it's ourselves we're seeing
in the underpass
look inward and awaken
through the eyes of a stranger
unknown subway stations

the streets are wearing uniforms
the boredom military
cold winds from the eastern bloc
and re-runs on the telly

let's share lucidity
in a taxi in Berlin

we need to kindle a light
in the darkness of mere being
through the eyes of a stranger
it's ourselves we're seeing
in the underpass
look inward and awaken
through the eyes of a stranger
unknown subway stations

Great stuff, Tim. Somewhere between Human League and Separations era Pulp. Sheffield area anyway.

Glad I put my headphones on for this.

A very cool New Wave vibe Tim, you nailed that 80's synths sound. It's gonna be a cool album!

Some great 80's style synths in here, love that drumbeat too. All the music is cool, sounds authentic  for the era. It definitely has a human league, Gary numan or even Bowieish sound. You always seem to write great lyrics too. The album should be great :) darren
I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)
One is a musical partnership with Keith Allen, ( we record songs as "The Devil's Toupee").
The 2nd one is for my other musical projects and collaborations. (DarrenG)
Thanks for listening.

Great lyrics as always, Tim and the content suits the austere sound of those synths perfectly. I like how that guitar does add an element of human feel to the track and production here is first class. As Darren says I also get a Gary Newman kinda vibe yet having said that there is a uniqueness and originality with the writing and production. Great work.

Oooh, loving those fruity synths! Great sounds, especially the bassy ones, it's sounding really good up synth street.... You absolutely nailed the 80s vibe, Foxx, Numan, HL and others coming through loud and clear. But your vocals make it uniquely Greeny, your lyrics and vocals have more nuance and feeling than many of the 80s types (who, let's face it, weren't the greatest vocalists.... ;D).

Love the underlying rhythm and core sounds, there's also great dynamics in the arrangement. Nice job on the production as well, the synths sound rich and full without any muddiness or harshness, often a challenge with synths. It's catchy as hell as well, really loving this one. Where's my trench coat and eye shadow.......?

Very on the button Nigel!

I'm aiming for a mixture of Foxx's 'Underpass', Ultravox's (Foxx again) 'Lonely Hunter', HL's 'Being Boiled', and everything Numan did with Tubeway Army :-)
