Yeah, this is very well written, performed, and mixed, and indeed I could see Snow Patrol turning this into a big hit.  They would probably find ways to rearrange it so that the intensity builds as the song progresses, and do things like have rhythm guitars kick in to elevate the chorus. I have this vision of them performing this in a big concert hall and they had to get a team of sound engineers to figure out how to reproduce the "fornylon" vocal effect live.
