OK. This one really, really got to me. Still buzzing. Some kind of weird alignment between the music, lyric, and Max and I. As soon as I heard the guide track I knew I had to try to come up with something worthy of the beautiful music.

We discovered we both love New York City Serenade by Springsteen. I think it probably shows  ;D

You'll see what we were trying to do. Apologies for the long lyric - it's a poem essentially.

Max is doing everything except the vocals and a bit of extra percussion (shaker).

Downtown Rodeo

Well I'm standing on the corner
of 13th street and emptiness
where the lights from the drugstore
kiss the asphalt with tenderness

the girls are urban mermaids
aloof in the neon and bathed in blue
and the newspaper kiosk
reflects all the trouble that we're going through

Now I'm standing with a clown convention
at the German hot dog stand
with mustard on my shirt
amongst all the wreckage of my broken plans

there's a glitch in the matrix
a rip in the space-time continuum

and here I am just trying to
hang on to this wild ride
in the dirty streets and lives
of this downtown rodeo
and here I am just trying to
outrun the dark of night
in this downtown rodeo
in the glitter
and the fallout
of this downtown rodeo

well the landing party beams down
and they've all got their phasers set to stun
and if i could write just one great song
maybe i could buy myself some sun

down south to savannah or across the rockies
to the western shore
but here i am in winter
with the rue morgue ravens quoting nevermore

slide through the shadows
like a private eye in a film noir
looking for the bar in that other song
where the wild things are

there's a glitch in the matrix
a rip in the space-time continuum

and here I am just trying to
hang on to this wild ride
in the dirty streets and lives
of this downtown rodeo
and here I am just trying to
outrun the dark of night
in this downtown rodeo
in the glitter
and the fallout
of this downtown rodeo

I like this one a lot Max and Tim! The lyric didn't seem long to me at all so no apology needed. The music and the vocal phrasing go hand in hand beautifully. Very well done....I'll be back for another listen...nice!

Test, test, one, two, three.....is this mic on?

this is amazing! I'm getting a bit Springsteen here. Gorgeous vocal against that piano.

Ace songwriting! Absolutely brilliant lyrics, Tim; the poetry reminding me in style of Allen Ginsberg, one of the 60's beat poets. Musically & vocally, this is all class and I can definitely hear The Boss influence. Great work, guys.

This is G-d-ed stunning. Music is fantastic, really good stuff, sounds really good....and then there comes Greeny...what words, what melody, what the heck is going on...that melodic line in the chorus on the second line "hang on to this wild ride" and again "outrun the dark of night" ..thats flipping genius man....melodic genius...I feel all woozy from listening...so flipping good

I like the piano playing a lot. The music as a whole is very good. But it's the melody that stands out the most for me. A very good vocal on top of a very nice bed track.

What a gorgeous song.
Tim, you can sing anything, just excellent, and the writing...
Max, that's one beautiful tune there.

We need another....

I know nothing of poetry but I know I love this collaboration. It's a haunting piece of piano music with some delicate and very catchy melodies that is just made for some wistful and poignant vocals, which Tim of course has supplied in spades, coupled with quite a gentle vocal performance. As always, the lyrics convey some wonderful images (urban mermaids, just brilliant!) and make this collaboration a wonderful piece of music. Bravo both!
