I tried to do something for the AlterEgo Fest but this is what came out.

Not quite LitLr (I thought I was never going to get through it)

Glory Days

What would a young punk ingenue sing if she were no long a young punk ingenue
Would she sing covers at half time in a bingo hall
Would she sing her own songs at St George's karaoke night

Would they recognise her
Would she even recognise herself
As she walks home alone in the dark

Would she lie there listening to her glory days
As the cold slowly creeps through her veins

Would they recognise her
Would she even recognise herself
As she's been lying there cold and unnoticed for days

What would a young punk ingenue sing when she was no long a young punk ingenue

Nice and mellow Hilary. The words are a bit sad but very engaging and you sing them well.

Like it, yeah. The words make me feel quite sad, but in a good way! :)

It's a gorgeous vocal.

Is just a piece of paper
To say a few lines
Make up my mind
So she can read it later

Sad, but well written and poignant story. Nicely sung indeed.
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Yeah lovely stuff. Those are lovely lyrics really powerful and really paint a picture. Very nice song Hilary.

Very cool indeed Hilary. Great storytelling and a lovely vocal as always. This one really hit a chord (or several chords) with me.

Is there an element of autobiography in there (maybe the young punk ingenue was you in the past)? This could be written about me (apart from the gender and the ending, I'm not quite there yet). When I was a serious young man trying to make it in the music world, we used to joke about ending up playing in a covers band if we didn't make it.

And here I am 40 years later retreading some of the same old stuff here. But thank goodness for the kind people of Songcrafters who seem to appreciate my meanderings better than the crowd at St. George's..... :)

I was never a punk (too much spitting for me) or an ingenue but I was young . . . once :D

I really like the idea of a 1 hit wonder from the 70s still singing her song at a karaoke night with no-one recognising her etc.

I'd love to have a fraction of your talent Nigel.

Love the vocal, the piano, the melody... everything! Melancholy and sweet at the same time. Great song and performance. Left me wanting more.

Redler

Everything works nicely here; lyric, vocals and music! Enjoyable little song...
