Best setup for vocals

I have been reading some posts here and I am wondering what is the best setup for recording vocals.  If I understand correctly, using something like a Shure microphone into an ART Tube MP preamp and going from the preamp into the 1/4 guitar input is one way to go.  Will this get the best sound for vocals?  I am totally new to this stuff, so hopefully I have this correct.  Any help would be appreciated.

actually the pre amp would sound best if you used the line input-the 1/4' jack is intended for guitar/bacc pickup impedence

Welcome!

I would say electret condenser microphones like the Sony ECM-DS70P are the way to go for vocals. The built in microphone also works very well.

SM57 is a dynamic mic, they are usable just about in every scenario but in studios for vocals a condenser microphone is normally used. Electret condenser microphones are like miniature condenser microphones that use 1.5-10 volts instead of 48v and they are cheap.

SM57 with an ART tube preamp is a great investment for a studio.

I use the built in mike, my only bugbear is that I cannot see the level meters while singing. I did but a cheap dynamic mike but it did not compare. Think I will try making one as per the instructions on this site. Maybe cannibalise the cheap mike to house it.

why cant you see the meters?

Eyesight, I am getting old lol!! Need new reading glasses. The way I hold it dont help I guess, but would be easier with a decent mike.
