Katy Bar the Door

(V1) Johnny feels the draw, to the rough side of town
Can't hold him back, that's where his girl beds down
He can hear her song, she's callin' to him
He's packin' heat, watchin' out for Big Jim
If he needs to run, an exit is near
Johnny's plans are made, the escape route is clear
The music is coming from every door
He's livin' in the moment and lookin' to score

(Chr) It's the thrill of danger, the adventure of it all
The longing for love, in forbidden halls
It's the bawdy side of town, it's the ailment and cure
Johnny knows the risks so Katy bar the door

(V2) One foot in the grave and the other not far
The sweetness of his lady is worth a few scars
When the dark side calls and opens its door
One long kiss, is worth the risk and more
Should they run with no place to hide?
Big Jim owns Katy and she's caught his eye
When it's time to go, they'll have no fear
They've made plans, to just disappear

(Chr) It's the thrill of danger, the adventure of it all
The longing for love, in forbidden halls
It's the bawdy side of town, it's the ailment and cure
Johnny knows the risks so Katy bar the door
(Gtr. Solo)

(V3) The time has come for them to take flight
The party's going strong and it's a dark night
All the plans are set, planning is precise
But someone spilled the beans for a minor price
Big Jim is livid, he's mad as hell
He wants someone's head, he wants to kill
But Johnny is cunning, beyond his years
He shot Big Jim dead, now they're in the clear

(Chr) It's the thrill of danger, the adventure of it all
The longing for love, in forbidden halls
It's the bawdy side of town, it's the ailment and cure
Johnny knew the risks and Katy barred the door...and Katy was the score

Very cool, Ferrell Jackson!!

Story songs don't have to be mellow folk ballads:  You've created a new rock ballad using a classic old fashioned phrase!!  AND; the lead solos shred!

I love the story; Johnny and Katy in love, trying to take her away from her illicit lifestyle, with her pimp standing in the way...  Great re-imagining of a 'tale as old as time'...   :)

I don't know alot about recording and technique, but DAMN!  Great job on this one.  It sounds like a full-fledged studio recording to my ears.

This is a real toe tapper rock tune! Perfect guitar tones and superb playing. Your voice fit like a glove on this.

Brilliant job by both of you!

Thanks Romidon and Kari! You've made an old rocker's day  ;D

Romidon: Ron's parts were recorded at his home studio in Farnborough, UK and mine were recorded at my place In N. California. Thanks for the good words on our song!

Absolutely amazing!!!   :o    This age we live in!

It blows my mind that the both of you weren't sitting in a the same studio recording this..  Shows how much of a novice I am to all this..  Seriously; [again] great job, both of you!

On another note:
I am excited to say that I've just purchased a Boss BR-800, due in WHOLE to influences from this website.  I am in awe of the amazing recordings that I've listened to by VARIOUS members here.

A week or so ago a member of Songcrafters met me at an open mic and after listening to me complaining about the problems I was having trying to use my Zoom H6, he showed me his Boss BR-80 and explained how easy it was to use.   Then he pulled up the Boss BR-800 online and said that it was what I needed to make my next step in improving my home recording capabilities..  I went home, got out my Zoom H6 and tried playing with it off and on over the next week (continuing to be frustrated), then decided to take the plunge..

When it arrives he and I will get together and try and work out some colab songs together...   I am SO excited....

This has a little bit of the spirit of "Born to be Wild" to my ears, a sound and feel we get all too rarely these days.

This was wonderful and sounds really fun to play.... well done and rock on guys!!!!!!!!

Really rockin' tune. Tells a great story and the music fits it well. It's a really powerful and punchy production and the vox sound great. Loved both the guitar solos, although I did feel the main solo could have been a bit higher in the mix. Maybe it's because the overdriven sound gets a bit lost against the crunchy rhythm guitars. Your solo at the end cuts through really nicely I suspect because of the cleaner sound.

But hey, that's minor. It's a really, really good listen as always. Well done both of you.
