How You Gonna Make It Now?

You turned up at a gunfight with a rose
How you gonna make it now?
How you gonna make it now?
And your bonsai tree won't grow
How you gonna make it now?
How you gonna make it now?

They'll never send a lifeboat in this storm
You're black and blue and marooned
How you gonna make it now?
How you gonna make it now?

Don't you ever cave
Don't you ever fade...
Away

They put a straitjacket on the sun
How you gonna make it now?
How you gonna make it now?
A bedlam big enough for everyone
How you gonna make it now?
How you gonna make it now?

A doctor clown wheeled past your bed today
And the pills were big and green
How you gonna make it now?
How you gonna make it now?

Don't you ever cave
Don't you ever fade...
Away

They'll never send a lifeboat in this storm
You're black and blue and marooned
How you gonna make it now?
How you gonna make it now?

I liked this right from the start. Laid back vibe on the backer and fine job with the lyric. I love it! Thanks for adding them.
A bit psychedelic feel with guitar solo/lead guitar in the end.

The piano sounds like a real one!

Everything has been put well together!

I'm a little late for Greeny Monday, but I'm glad I caught it. Very finely crafted song (great touch on the piano & guitars), and the way you deliver the repeated line is catchy as all hell.

Another beauty Tim. I would love to hear in the descriptions how you come up with the lyrics/ideas. These songs you do are really wonderful, much can be learned from you.

Big question!

I'm not entirely sure how the words arrive for my songs. I love words and poetry, so lyrics tend to arrive easily and naturally. And I love writing and shaping them.

Occasionally I just sort of filter things I've seen, read or heard into a random order (like William Burroughs / Brion Gynsin's random cut-up technique but in my head). But usually I'm specifically trying to say something about the world, or my life or my state of mind in that moment.

This one is a mixture of the two. It's about coming through adversity: giving yourself a challenge and telling yourself to pull through somehow, even when things look bleak.

There's an element of being diagnosed with severe type II diabetes and turning it all around (well, trying to...), getting sacked and dealing with mental health issues. And reminding myself not to cave in or give up.

The doctor clown... a nod to a surreal scene in Tim Burton's 'Pee Wee's Big Adventure', and a reference to all the medication I'm on. Bedlam & strait jackets... to do with mental illness, and a reference to my book of poetry (out of print!) 'Mini Cab to Bedlam'. Not sure about the bonsai tree though  :D

Thanks for the kind words - much appreciated  :)

I like this a lot!  And stylistically... I can imagine this being a Pink Floyd song!  Always fun to hear your tunes for the first time and discover the surprise turns in the melody line.  Love the guitar solo...

These days I merely dabble at being old and wise.
But I swear, I used to absolutely excel at being young and stupid.

Yeah another winner for me, glad you're overcoming the obstacles that life puts in our way. Like you I don't really struggle to find lyrics although I must admit mine are rather naive boy-girl nonsense. Back to the song, I love the jangling guitar in my left ear, it may be on the right as well but my hearing is not so good on that side, I stood to close to the drummers cymbals which in my opinion do more damage than loud amplification. Roll on next Monday.   Willie
