Acoustic amp necessary ?

Any info using a guitar amp with a new acoustic Guitar with on-board pick-up systems?

I have a small Fender Rumble Bass amp I have heard is  acceptable.
I also have a Line 6 Spider Jam that has both a Guitar input and a Mic input.
I have heard the mic input is less "modified" for electric guitars and better

any thoughts...

I also have a Boss br-80 if that is any help

Thanks

I'm sure you can dial up a passable clean sound on the Spider. Pay attention to the mid-range when dialing in a sound to give it some body without getting too flubby. I'd try the bass amp as well (although I assume there's no option for reverb there).

Good luck.

If you're interest is more recording it rather than playing it through an amplifier, the BR-80 has some acoustic effects presets you could try or tweak. I haven't used them myself as I usually record acoustic directly through the onboard mic (or an external mic), so there's no additional advice I could give in that respect.

It all depends on what you're going to use it for. Is it for a live performance or recording? If it's for performing live, as a solo act, then it's good to have an amp with a designated XLR plug for the vocal mic and one for your acoustic. The amp is essentially your PA system which includes eq with reverb/chorus which most acoustic amps have.. If it's for recording, as cuthbert said, you don't need an amp. You just plug direct and use the effects in the recorder.

I have a Fender Acoustisonic amp that has two channels, one for guitar and one for a mic. It is a stereo amp with 40 watts on each channel with two 8" speakers and tweeters. They make several models and price ranges for the Acoustisonic amps about $99 to $500 depending on your requirements in power and accessories. I like mine (great chorus and reverb) and it's worked well for many years. I hope that helps.

Many people use a bass amp for acoustic guitars, they tend to be clean and rich, just what you need for acoustic guitars, but you have to watch out for that snappy quack that you get with piezo bridges, so a good parametric EQ or graphic will help improve also.

I normally put an acoustic into a channel on a mixer via a DI and into the PA when using one live. This can work well too.

Thanks for the replies.....I was told a bass amp might be enough so I will try before I go amp shopping again.

The new Yamaha THR5A looks interesting in some of the reviews adding some subtle effects and very portable.

Now back to the decisions on Martin DC16RGTE vs Taylor 314 CE.....playing them all and still undecided.
(not the toughest/ unpleasant decision I have had to make...  ;))
