Some time ago, for the Led Zeppelin fest, I completed covers of the songs on side 1 of Led Zeppelin III.  Lately my musical well has dried up and all that got me started again was the prospect of embarking on side 2.  Now, the songs on side 2 have always daunted me, they seem a lot harder that those on side 1.  But I went onto YouTube and found a video of how to play this track and went for it (and ended up doing it a lot differently to how the video showed).

I've always loved this track and am happy with the result here.

The sharper eared among you will notice that there are two verses missing. There's a good reason for this - I cocked up.  I made the backer, then copied down the lyrics and realised that there are three verses before each chorus rather than the two I'd done.  D'oh.  I may do a longer version with the two extra verses at some point.

I put new strings on my guitar for this - the first new strings they've had I'm ashamed to say (I've had the guitar more than five years).

Anyway.  Enjoy...

A nice version of a great song. I like the guitars and the vocal.
A suggestion, if I may. I would like to hear the vocal stand out more in the mix.
Perhaps when you remix with the omitted verses?

A real fine version of this Led Zep song! I'm gonna have to search out your other Zep covers and give them a listen. Nice one!

I am really digging the ultra reverbed single note line between verses. I need to break out some Zep today.

Very cool.

Nice job, Nick!

I didn't realise that you'd done the whole of side 1. I had a look at the ZepFest jukebox and discovered that "Out on the Tiles" was missing. So I searched for it to see if I missed it and I found that you'd done it earlier for 70sFest. It seemed a shame not to have it in ZepFest to complete Side 1, so I've added it.

and you should be happy with this. very happy.

So you are the same as me - I am too lazy to bother changing strings too :) I can go years also without changing, the shameful thing is when you change them it does sound better!!

This version is brilliant. Your vocal is the standout - very plant like. superb!!!

Yes and that reverb you have added is spot on.

Great cover Nick and you can hear the freshness of the strings too !

Bought 3 new sets of strings, must be a year ago now, with the intention of restringing my 3 most used guitars and still haven't got round to doing it.  To think I used to change them after every 2 gigs at one time !
